Good quality RCA Y-splitter suggestions
« on: May 08, 2010 at 07:41 PM »
I would appreciate your suggestion on where to buy good quality Y-splitter.

I'll need  it to connect a sub to my 2-channel audio only set-up. My stereo amp does not have a sub-out so I'll use the Y-splitter from the RCA output of my CDP.

I bought an el-cheepo Y-splitter from an audio-sotre in MCS but built quality appears cheap and does not seem to do justice to the rest of the interconnect chain.

Thanks in advance

Since you're using the sub to change the volume anyway, it might be better to connect the sub in the amp's Rec Out jacks. This would likely minimize the deterioration that you're experiencing.

Chances are, the deterioration is not caused by the Y-connector, but the fact that your CDP is driving 2 amp inputs (and different amps at that) running in parallel.

Hi Sir Ivan,

Thanks for chiming in.  ;D

My amp is a minimalist Virtua Audio One, no rec-out I'm afraid.  ;D

But I guess your right that it might be too axing for the CDP to simultaneously drive two amps.  ;D

I tried this configuration which seemingly ounded better:
CDP RCA-OUT > Amp > Main speakers
CDP Coaxial OUT > Super Pro DAC > Active Sub

I guess this is less taxing to the CDP?

Kaya lang parang sayang yung DAC.  ;D That's why I'm explorying cheaper solutions.  ;D

Regards,

Hi Ka Rene,

Ay oo, almost forgot about tht.  ;D

I triead it out palaya but not very good results, compared to the DAC route posted above.

I read from Virtue Audio main site at Audiocircle na may kontng issue sa sub-out ng version na ito ng amp which they corrected in the newer One.2 abd iother newer Virtue amps.

OT: Any plans of getting the newer version? O baka si Sir Bagets meron na?  ;D  ;D

Yes, the CDP's line level outputs would be driving more benign loads in this case.

If your sub has speaker level inputs, you can also opt to use them. This would allow you to use a single volume control for the both the sub and your main speakers.
