pagnatripan ka ng customs natin...
sometimes wala sometimes meron...
excluding excess baggage...

sometimes they remove the box..
to hide them as newly purchased equipment
its a risk really...

maybe others have other ways..

you may bring in 1 unit without worries.......changing the box to something not obtrusive certainly helps....

It really depends on your luck & the custom official on duty. You may pay up as high as 30% or even higher. Few years back I brought in a new DVD player. I removed the shrink wrapped, manual, etc so that it didn't look like new. I pretended it's a used item from my country & since I'm working in Philippines, I decided to bring it over with me...darn they refused to accept my reason & still slapped me with tax. As usual it's "negotiable" if you know what I mean.... ;D

If coming from an Asian country parang wala naman problema dumaan sa customs.  Yun galing sa US and Europe generally sila nagtatanong.

I believe what TonyT meant was that di naman nagtatanong yun customs pag dumadaan siya.

Kaya nga I'm asking for clarification. One time I bought aftermarket brake rotors with me in my luggage, they asked me if I bought anything I said no and they asked to look into my hand-carry bag which did not contain anything. But if they asked to look into my luggage then they would have seen those big brake rotors.

Unang -una hindi yan tatanggapin ng LBC. Nakatie-up lang sila sa DHL for international route if not mistaken. Mas mura pa rin kung sa US mo kunin thru Allan (toy 01) or Philip (anya618).

The stress and the possibility that you get charged a lot by customs is not worth it for me.

large items bought brand new abroad are high risk to be taxed, regardless kung for personal use or not because customs officials always presume na they are taxable. sad but true. maybe if you really plan to buy something abroad limit it to small items lang like universal remotes and the like, para madali iconceal.

I think pinipili lang ng custom yung mga pinanggalingan ng mga sinisita nila. been passing through custom every 35 days pero kahit minsan di naman sila nagtatanong. kahit yung mgay mga dalang malalaking bagahe at yung may bitbit na LED, LCD tv wala namang hassle. As long as iisang piraso lang yan tingin ko walang problema liban lang kung naghahanap ng pang meryenda yung custom.

bottom line.... if you will buy something in singapore na eye-catching pag bitbit mo sa NAIA, you should prepare to pay the tax if approached by a custom officer, pag di ka pinansin... dun ka nakatipid!

Ang isang drawback when you buy your receiver there is the warranty. I do not know for receivers if there is such an international warranty.

Di ba ang purpose mo naman kaya ka bibili is because very affordable ang price sa SG compared here in PH.
Laki din ng difference... some receivers have a difference of P5000~P8000, maybe more.

But the RISK is... if ever.... harangin ka ng customs...at bayaran mo yung duties/taxes, without any concrete amount anyone here can give... would you think makatipid ka pa din?

its all about RISKs... no GUTS... no GLORY!

International warranty will be apply or honored only by the service center to those who are in transit or not a permanent resident in Philippines (ito yung explaination sa akin ng taga Acer noong pinaayos ko yung laptop sa kanila). Kaya, malamang walang warranty unless kung may problema ipadala mo balik sa kung saan mo nabili ang unit, which is expensive. :o
