This is the only local show I now watch religiously. It's on GMA after the ludicrous captain barbell. It stars Marian Rivera, Sid Lucero, Raymond Bagatsing, etc. and is set in pre-colonial Philippines. While the story is fictional, the sets and costumes are said to be accurate.
http://www.igma.tv/shows/amayaI learned how little I know about our past and the stories of our country outside Manila. I never knew about the binukot, girls who were kept away from the rest of the community to learn the songs and dances of their tribe.
I don't know if the story will be groundbreaking (looks like a Romeo and Juliet drama from what i can see) but it's a step in the right direction. Instead of remaking koreanovelas and old soaps like Mara Clara, we should embrace the richness of our own culture!
School kids should be encouraged to see this and parents should supplement this with a trip to the Ayala museum to see our ancient gold collection.
