Initial impressions of the new el-34 amp from phasetron:

Speakers used were Anthony's signature series and source was a denon cd player.

The combination had a lush midrange, bass was tight and I found it adequate considering the speakers were bookshelves. according to the people there its a push pull amp running in pentode mode giving out 25w per channel. At 10' o clock volume it was rockin and no signs of distortion or looseness in the bass, considering we were playing a rock track (forgot the artist sorry) it more than held its own..could use a little bit more dynamics though but maybe its because the amp wasn't warmed up enough or still at its breakin stage. Anyway I auditioned the amp for only 30 minutes so your mileage may vary...all I can say its worth the 23K, the chassis is nice and the sides have ventilation holes, and it doesn't hurt that the surface is chromed and it has a cool faceplate. Considering the aesthetics and the actual sound, you'll get one of the best bang for buck deals around with this amp.

yup. you can also try hyperaudio/sir rene. price range is between 1.1k to 1.4k per el-34

my amx amp has oversized transformers... how about going from oversized to overkill.... ?

i just saw it in tony's shop yesterday when i passed by with a couple of friends... they were gonna have their amps tweaked, and i was gonna give him the sockets for our amp project... i wonder who comissioned him to make those trannies, they're huge... i figure one of those freshly painted ones would make a good power supply, they're bigger than the one in the new push-pull amp.
