I was at SNS this afternoon at around 6pm to check out this TV. Wala silang display unit so they took one from the stock room. Thanks to the staff of SNS for accommodating my request for audition.

Was fortunate enough to see this tv in action.

Overall impression :

Better black levels compared to the UT series (which was also on display) was way better.
Glare was not a factor
Default setting has motion effects ON. Not really an issue since you can turn that off or low anyway.
Form factor it's much thinner than the UT counterpart

I was already planning to get the 50UT but when I saw it medyo nadismaya ako kasi it looked almost identical to my 50c10 that I got from SNS as well. Para bang di ako nag upgrade.

Good thing itong 50ST looks different even when off.

One thing na medyo na turn off ako was the power consumption. 450watts?

Sir Vic whats the last cash price for this one? Pls PM.

Medyo mataas yung price na bigay nila kanina. thanks

Normal ata higher power consumption sa higher model plasmas. They drive the panel harder to deliver better contrast ratios.

The same is partly true din sa LCD and LED TVs. In this case naman they run brighter backlights to boost contrast.

In both cases, they normally tint the screen to reduce intensity (para hindi nakakasilaw) while reaping the rewards of a higher contrast ratio. Kaya mapapansin mo na 'blacker' yung screen ng higher model TVs when turned off. Since the CRT days ganito na ginagawa (remember the Black Trinitrons?) to push contrast levels beyond what would otherwise be achievable with the display technology.

Actually 450watts is the maximum. The average power consumption for this TV is just around 250 watts.  :D

Between this and the Samsung PS51E550, what can you recommend? I'll be replacing my Panasonic TH-42PV8H... of course, my brothers LG 55 inch will still dwarf this... but I'm looking for the best bang for the buck...  more $$$ than I'm willing to spend on a tv only 5 inches bigger... or should I wait for the newer models?

I am also choosing between this and the Samsung E550.  Presently, I'm leaning more to the panasonic model. Read less issues about it than the Samsung although the Samsung have slightly more features. Wished for a bigger screen but you are correct why pay significantly more for an additional 5 inches.... just watch closer to the screen and get the same effect.

In the end, you still end up with around 25% more viewable area at any viewing distance with JUST the additional 5 inches from 50 to 55.  But he is coming from a 42, and an upgrade to a 50 gives 40% more viewable area already - masaya na yon - until you happen to see it beside something bigger.

I doubt if a lot of people would actually sit closer than where they usually do, but yeah, that can be done.

Samsung plasma presents more reddish primary color.

Panasonic, especially the ST series offers very  natural color. It has the black that renders great contrast to the dark scenes.

If you wish to have a bigger size, we also have 55ST30 at P95K.

Check out this TV on display at our showroom. Many claim that ST30 presents very close to Pioneer KURO picture quality.  :D

Based on what I read, the Logitech C910 is the only 3rd party webcam that is compatible with 2011 model Panasonics - that includes the ST30.

Good news for me, I have that Logitech Webcam.
Bad news for me, my Panasonic is model 2010 (2/20 series).
But good news for all, the Logitech is much cheaper than that proprietary Panasonic Webcam and is capable of very nice high def quality video (if your bandwidth allows).
