I've had a couple of Onkyo AV receivers before, I have no complaints with performance, but had issues with reliability on both.  I had the same issue on both models, the power would come up but the system is basically dead - this happened on a 705 and on an earlier model before the 1-year warranty expired.  Both unit were repaired free, but after more than a year the 705 had the same issue and I had to pay more than 1k for the repair.

After the second issue on the 705, I decided to sell it and went for another brand and got the Denon 1909.  I find the SQ on the Denon 1909 much better compared to the 705, and it's really reliable - been using it for 4 years now without any issues.

Now, seriously considering Denon 2113CI.... hmmmmmm.....

Initially, I wanted a 616 or a 717... kaso, merun issues.....

Try the 818.

616 and below suffer from hdmi board problem, one firmware even bricked some units was quickly pulled out. read the bad amazon reviews and on CNet.
Onkyo perennially ends up the lowest part of the list of the reliable brands.
I read the latest firmware fixed most of the issue with the hdmi boards.
I haven't really heard as much problems with the 818 models and above.

We still have 1 unit onkyo 818 selling for 53k. Last unit. New units will have a slightly higher price.
