I previously own Xenon 810, I gave it to my in-laws a year ago after I acquired a new player. The Xenon 810 still reads orig and pirated DVDs flawlessly after 3 years, so with regards to durability Xenon is OK for me.

To 830 owners, guys can please comment on picture quality of 830 compared to branded players like Pioneer and LG.

Thanks.

Bought the Xenon DVD-830 yesterday at Abensons, SM Nort EDSA ( as well as extended warranty). It played all unreadable disk i have (including bad back-up copies) which I cant play on other units. It was also able to read my USB as well as my sons divX files flawlessly. Did a torture test and played several DVD's , MP3's without a hitch.

Satisfied na sana ako except I saw a small blackbar at the bottom of the screen. I noticed that it will appear after I cycle through the SURROUND button, parang may naiiwan na kaparisong vertical bar na itim. You can see it all through-out when playing the DVD afterwards. Guys, do you experience this? Please advise baka kasi sa unit ko lang --- para pwede ko mahabol palit ng unit sa Abensons ( I think they allow change of unit within 7 days). Appreciate your feedbacks!

Nope, I didn't encounter the residual graphic after cycling through the "Surround" options.

Thanks for the info, I can see the residual bar by cycling thru the surround mode ( in the remote), then when it say surround off, do not press the button again. After a second or so you will see the residual bar.

I've checked a new unit at Abemsons just now and its also present in that unit? I dont know if its just this particular batch or all throughout the product line. Its quite irritating.

*sigh*

xenon don't support GMC... especially on xvid... xenon support only gmc on DIVX...

that is the only you will worry on xenon... GMC... and it is okay... philips and pioneer support this but the price is not that cheap... because GMC is hardware dependent... but with quality improvement and smooth...

85% of divx player don't support this either... and other don't support PACKET BITSTREAM, VOP, Q-Pel... etc...

but xenon chipset support this all except GMC on XVID...

so avoid ka na lang ng xvid with gmc... ako nga... i encoded all my xvid with gmc... so far dalawang titles lang naman meron akong xvid na may gmc...

Ghost Fighter at Ghost in the Shell...

hope i helps....

VGA... nothing i can say...

after i use it... i would never go back with CRT display... i'm using a 19"samsung FLAT monitor....

compare with SONY WEGA 21" stereo flat tv using RGB connection... i would rate it 10 to 5 favoring my SAMSUNG 19" monitor...

SAMSUNG 19" Flat Monitor...
XENON 830...
TAMASHI 5.1 channel with remote...

i used avicheck 4.6...

don mo malalaman kung yung avi mo eh may gmc... pero i only check it if the codec used is xvid... pag divx ang codec na ginamit sa avi files... okay na sya...

pero to make sure... check mo na lang wether it is divx or xvid codec...

okay...
google mo lang avicheck 4.6...

drag and drop ang usage nya...

Alrighty!  Salamat! Oh well.

Any other thoughts?

Is there a way to update the firmware kasi my Version and 8032 reads = 05.00.04.02. Nakita ko yung version mo ay: 05.00.05.01 which is newer a bit.

just found out...

XENON 830 is using the newest Mediatek 1389 chipset... it more stable and faster chipset than ESS VIBRATO II which used by BRANDED dvd player like PHILIPS, PIONEER, LG, etc...

some BRANDED dvd player is now using the MEDIATEK chipset over ESS VIBRATO II... because of the new features and speed... i guess... like loading movies and dvix/xvid capabilities...

you could check your XENON 830... here is the command...

1. press the SETUP on the remote... then press this number... 1379... it is the version firmware of the unit...

mine is:

VERSION 05.00.05.01
SUB-VER 00.00.00.01
8032       05.00.05.01
SERVO     23.07.00.00
RISC        05.00.05.01
DSP         03.03.01.91
REGION CODE   0

2. press the setup on the remote... then press right 3 times... now your on preference... press again this number... 1379... it is the model maker... and the region code to change... just press up or down to select the region restriction... 0 is region-free...

mine is:

MODEL   DVD-3030
DATE      Jul182005
REGION  0

beter there is no disc... while performing this command...

and 1 more thing guys...

xenon already supported the new DviX 6.0 Media Files... i tried it yesterday... Divx Media Files is like a container... like OGM of VORBIS and MKV or Matroska...

i tried Yu Yu Hakusho (ghost fighter)... it has two audio and two subtitles... each has English and Japanese version... now i can select the audio and subtitle using the LANGUAGE/SUBTITLE feature of XENON... i just converted it to DIVX Media Files format... which has an extension of  ".DIVX"

and downloaded the demo of Starwars and Last Man Standing on DIVX web sites...

but the MENU and CHAPTER is not supported yet by XENON... {{sigh}}...

the new DIVX Media File will be supported by most DVD player by next year pa... it will be a new DIVX Certified logo... sa mga DIVX certified lang eh thru FIRMWARE UPGRADE...

hope XENON can be upgraded thru CD... cuz using a serial cable is tedious... and hardwork... hope XENON service center will do it for us...

cuz i found some FIRMWARE patches already on the net for Mediatek 1389... i like the best of this is the LONG FILE NAME... cuz recent firmware is already LONG FILENAME but only using the first 14 character...

just giving some info... and hoping this XENON will last longer than i expected...

hope i helps... thanks a lot...

LOL...

@manilabynight

pero it is still the same function... di ka pa rin magkakamali... yun nga lang SAME PRICE TAG BUT NO USB SUPPORT...??? sayang nga lang talaga...

i used memory card reader... branded... kasi yung mga generic ayaw tangapin... then i have 2x 1GB XD memory card... solve na me...

hope i helps...

Hehehe...

After over 5 years, my Pioneer DVD player seems to be dying.  It's currently confined at a Pioneer service center.

As I have no intention of spending Holy Week without a DVD player, I bought a Xenon 830.  So far so good.  Hope it lasts.  But I paid for a 3-year extended warranty just in case    ;D

Thanks to TheJoker for letting me audition his unit     ;)

For the first model with the USB, they used a more expensive mediatek 1389 chipset, then they realized that the retail price was way way lower than what it should be with that chipset and USB capabilities, thus they withdrew all units with the USB and released a cheaper (cost wise) unit using the same model number. The new units don't have the mediatek chipset anymore, nor the USB connection. Mahirap na maghanap ngayon. Yung akin was bought 2 months ago, last unit na, may sablay pa sa pindutan sa harap, pinabayaan ko na because gusto ko yung USB capabilities.

hi, just bought the xenon 830D last april 18, 2006. just tested it with my r1 and r3 disk which i can't play with my branded dvd player. it works great and it can play my divx disk and can also play my pal disk, the video looks great when in pregressive and also in interlace mode conneced to my 32drx9 using component. now im looking for a d tanshi to component cable to maximize the progressive function of my tv. the player is performing great... hope this player can stand the test of time... crossing my fingers.

guys, i just bought xenon dvd 830 kanina lang sa megamall cost me P3490.00
so far i was looking for the usb features sbi nung saleslady meron pa ata isa
kasi yung box meron label na usb and yung iba wala. so when we opened the box
and check for the usb  :( wala sya. sbi nung saleslady wala na talaga baka packing na
lang. so bad. pero so far as the saleslady told me the features na convince nya ko bilhin
ang xenon 830 rather than nextbase 656. will test the player mamaya pag uwi.  ;)
