have you bought a multitester , some handtools and soldering iron already?

tubes are a good way to get started, they're fun and forgiving of a lot of mistakes except one, never touch the B+ with your bare hands...

start with the foreplay schematic i posted, while you are at it, go over to
www.tubecad.com and see the writings of john broskie, especially about common cathode circuits, of load lines and stuff...you'll get to understand how tube amplifier works...this should be very easy if you have engineering background....
