Time to buy a new Amp, My 5 year old Sony Amp can only decode AC3 & DTS. I can't even enjoy Celine Dion BD concert. bec. its Dolby TrueHD. also my Elton John BD.

Guys, Whats Amps are you suggesting? And with matching Bookshelf Speakers? My HT room is about 22sqm only.

A question for people who upgraded to firmware 2.20:

Does the resume function work on all your BD titles? I noticed that it works for some of my older titles (worked fine on my Italian Job BD) but didn't work for ID4. Is there some sort of compatibility issue with titles utilizing BD-J?

Since it could take me a lot of time to backtrack, please indulge me this simple question:

Which would be a better buy, The US or Asian PS3? Please cite reasons if possible. Thanks!

One feature that many awaits is the ability of the PS3 to play mkv files (matroska) on the fly, as well as the elimination of the file system's limitations on fat32

Btw, to all those who pm'd me re: the titles and hi def.. the files range from 4.7GB to 9GB.  Majority are 720p vob files with 6 channel audio.  By my count I'm on my 41st title this morning, and by Sunday this week i'll have a complete description of the file (if it's 720p or 1080p) and will be jotted down on a list.

Thanks.  I'll pm everyone interested when would be the meetup.

Just send me your requests, i'll see what i can do.  Thanks.

The problem with fat32 is that the VOB file will be divided into two parts for most if not majority of the movies after mkv2vob.
Unless your movie is less than 1 hour & 25 minutes. Most wouldn't fit in a standard blank dvd.

The best storage for me would be DL DVD. The price is 35 to 40 pesos which is acceptable.

I  think PS3 internal HD is not Fat32 formatted. bec. it has no 4gb file limitation for copying from DL DVD. But again since you already have the movie in the DL DVD. Just play it right away from the disk.

Unless we can find a way to transfer the huge file without burning to a DL DVD.
Ideas anyone?

OT: If you have your own network at home you can setup the pc as a file server. You the access the files from the ps3's web browser and download them. This would be better discussed on a separate thread though :)

Malamang internal decoding tapos dadaan as PCM multichannel kagaya ng Dolby TrueHD.  It does not have the correct hardware to bitstream to a external decoder daw. But many say you won't notice the difference.

Few more days to go....it's time to dig out all my Fox studio titles... :D

Hopefully the 2.30 firmware update will indeed be released on the 15th.  :D
Got this additional info.....

"Everyone knew it was coming, they just didn't know when. Well, now we know: On April 15th, Sony will issue firmware version 2.3, which will add support for the DTS-HD Master Audio (MA) and DTS-HD High Resolution (HR) to the PlayStation 3 (PS3). In combination with the recent BD-Live firmware, this allows the PS3 to play all Blu-ray titles at their optimal functionality.

Fox and New Line exclusively use the DTS-HD MA format on their Blu-ray releases to ensure a "master quality" reproduction of the sound. Similar to Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA takes the audio directly from the master and compresses it in a way that maintains the same audio fidelity in a much smaller file size. Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, and PCM are considered the ultimate way to experience a film soundtrack.

Brian Towne, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Consumer Division at DTS commented, "We are extremely pleased that Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) is adding the full spectrum premium DTS-HD Master Audio codec into the PS3 so that more than 10 million owners of one of the best selling computer entertainment systems can have the best sounding, most efficient and flexible audio technology available system as well. DTS-HD Master Audio is fast becoming the must-have feature for high definition entertainment enthusiasts." (bluray.com)

PS3 is the cheapest & most versatile way to HD experience. everything is there already. BD playback, DVD upscaler, x264 playback via vob, Apple or Yahoo HD trailers, AVCHD camcorder playback, MP3, Internet Browser, built-in wifi, mem card readers, hdmi, oprical cable, etc.

Now try to assemble an HTPC setup. It will cost you much much more. PC fans are noisy & PC doesn't look good with your AV setup.

Oh, did I mention it can also play games.  :D

I think the Popcorn Hour A-100 ($180) will play practically all formats, but its still kinda hard to come by (wait listed).  Locally available are the Divco Tvix 4100SH and 5100SH, P16.5k and P18.5k respectively last time I canvassed in computer stores.  You can just stick in any size hard drive you want.  Does the PS3 already support .mkv like the abovementioned units?  Matroska seems to be gaining much more popularity over Divx.
