unexpected media player gear just came to my home. the mede8er 500x2, the x1 was a very well received media player, got great reviews and this anticipated update is expected to be a great player too with its new chipset, the realtek 1185!

Up close and personal...
i immediately replaced my xtreamer for this unit, everything was up and running, btw, its on latest firmware and it looks robust. set up the usual av settings. watch a couple of movies and it was pretty cool unlike the xtreamer mk1 which is pretty bland in the looks department. now the moment of truth for this unit to be a permanent player in my ht room... it should read my etrayz nas, viola, using upnp it recognized only two folders the torrents and the iTunes folder, my contents are not saved there, trying to get the nfs sharing is also a no go (I'm not a techie and i have to still ask around to get this to work, so for now its a bust in the networking department).
it looks like this is going down to the living room for the kids to toy around (with my permission of course)... one thing i love about the xtreamer and etrayz combo is it just works, the etrayz is recognized by the unit and it just plays everything right off the bat. guess this will still be my set-up and any upgrade in my room would be getting another model of an xtreamer.
but putting the mede8er down in my living room did give me some surprises, just a little history, i installed a second xtreamer unit in the past so as to get it to stream my content from the etrayz, problem was the xtreamer can't seem to detect the etrayz which is upstairs in my ht room, so that plan went south. but with the mede8er, the unit was able to detect the etrayz in upnp like when it was upstairs which means once i find a way to get the nfs share to work, i can stream music and video downstairs!!! so now the mede8er has finally found a new home, got to surf on it, you tube videos were very viewable, the unit's ui is pretty ok for me simple to navigate around.
will post some pictures in its new home, and now to find somebody who can help me with this nfs sharing thing....
