Why the need for huge and bulky receivers?
« on: Dec 25, 2013 at 05:15 PM »
Cant we just put a surround wireless soundbar?  There are soundbars with hdmi inputs and wireless subwoofers and speakers.

These av receivers take so much space and heavy. It reminds me of our old vhs layer.

Unfortunately, wired systems are still superior to wireless systems today.

This may change in the near future.

Receivers also provide features like sound calibration, upscaling video to hd or even 4k.

Of course you can dahil kanya-kanya naman yan. People just love the versatility that a separate home theater set provides kaya di lang pang-movies, pang-audio na rin.

Di masyado maganda ang panning ng mga surround bars for me. But ofcourse, in the near future, parang yun demo ng Bose last year sa hifi show where they have a "sound stick".

If you are after sound quality, there's no getting around a proper 2.1 or 5.1 or 7.1 setup.  A soundbar is more of a lifestyle system, where you have necessary sonic compromises to play nice with the interior designer or homeowners with limited space. . .

That depends on your preference. Yes you can if you dont like the heavy receivers. But for those who like to have a good set of speakers with good sound then the AV route is preferred.

You can hide the boxes in a well made rack, or use a sleeker AVR. Smaller speakers are also available, if they meet your needs.

Some slimmer options:

There's a reason why some receivers are bulky and heavy.  More power and more features.  It's really your preference.

Heat dissipation is also a factor. AVR's with more power and features tends to run hotter hence the bulky case for air circulation except for those class D amps.
