In case anyone's looking, Facets, some kind of rental service based in Chicago, has two films by Lino Brocka: "Macho Dancer" (1988) and "Orapronobis" (Fight for Us, 1989). The first is gay softcore porn tacked on to a rather good melodrama; the second is superb propaganda, a terse summary of the years of transition from the Marcos regime to the Aquino administration (and how things more or less stayed the same--or worse). You can go
here and look for the name "Lino Brocka." "Macho Dancer" is on sale in both VHS and DVD; "Orapronobis" is only on VHS, and only for rent.
As for Brocka's best known film, "Maynila sa mga Kuko ng Liwanag" (Manila in the Claws of Neon, 1975), a VHS copy can be found
here. No guarantees of subtitles.
"Maynila" is not my favorite Filipino film, or even my favorite Brocka film, but it's on a lot of people's all-time best list (including Goeff Andrew's book "Film: The Critics' Choice"), and I do think it's a very good, perhaps great film.
