Mga Sir,

Ask ko lang opinion nyo.

My family here in Nueva Ecija watches cable TV broadcast about 90% of the time and only occasionally wathes DVD movies.

I'm planning to replace my crappy no-brand (from Makro) 26" CRT.

I'm considering the following:
1. entry level Panasonic/LG 32" 1080i LCD - around 20K
2. Samsung Slimfit 29" CRT Model CS-29Z40MQ (1080i via component) - around 15K

What to you think is my better option?

Associated equpment for DVD watching (3.1 setup)
Player: Harman Kardon DVD-22
AV amp: Denon AVC-3030
Front: Celestion 3000
Center: Celestion 100
Sub: M&K V90

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sir,

Is LCD TV better than CRT for standard definition cable broadcast?

As mentioned above we watch SD broadcast 90% of the time.

Another reason I'm considering CRT is that with standard TV broadcast, the images in LCD are 'streatched'. Masanay din kaya kami with 'stretched' image with time?

If you do go for LCD, you have the option to watch in 4:3, so no stretched picture.  Then if you'll be watching dvd's you can go 16:9.  ;)

Salamat sa mga advices mga Sirs.

Now I'm convinced to go flat panel.

Another question lang mga Sir:

If I go for 42" entry level flat panel, should I go LCD or plasma for cable viewing?

Thanks in advance mga Sirs.

if the room you will use it has may lights or well lit room. LCD
If you plan to use it in darker rooms or no light rooms - Plasma
To Boldly go where no Bluray has gone before.

You might want to consider Panasonic THL-32C20 also. Supposedly better than the Toshiba.

Just sharing analog TV reception from my Panasonic THL-32C20.  The settings are untweaked out of the box at Normal video settings.  My analog TV cable is attached to an ordinary 2 way splitter using just an RG59 cable.  With the IPS panel with a very good analog TV reception this is a sound choice for those looking for an LCD TV.

Yup very much.  The performance and PQ is just astounding for an HD ready panel.  When we compared this side by side with the Toshiba 32AV700 and the Panasonic 32C10 playing the video Avatar (during the outerspace scene where there were stars in the background) the C20 showed more stars in the background compared to the other 2.  Details were more prominent.   The colors were more vibrant with the C20 than with its previous model.  And with its IPS panel, there was a wider viewing angle than the Toshiba. The only downside of this model is the single HDMI port.  But for my needs, this is enough thus my decision.  Thanks for the advise bro.

Victor at sights n Sounds had in the past delivered to me two units for testing and I chose the best one. Perhaps you can do the same with a side  by side demo of these two units above? Good Luck

With all the LEDs, LEDs, and plasma I've seen and tested, for pure cable I'd still prefer a CRT.

Unless:

1)Size is a factor
2)HD level broadcasts.

Just my opinion.

I have a 42a20 at home and most of the time it is used for analog cable viewing (global destiny) in my opinion the PQ of analog signals is clearer than LCD and it is less straining sa maata. ang problem lang with flat panels is ung aspect ratio, since most flat panel is 16:9 and analog is 4:3 you might be bothered by stretching. But you can resolve this by changing the aspect ratio and since panasonic uses grey bars instead of black image retention wont be a problem.

This is the first LCD TV I owned and only have a crappy 26" Makro non-name CRT TV to compare it with.

I can oly say that my family is enjoying it betterr thaan the old crappy CRT TV when connected to standard cable boradcast here in Nueva Ecija.  Moreover, family is starting to watch more and more DVDs.

Sorry I can't post pics, I don't have a decent camera at hand.

Hi Sir Reynold,

Musta na Sir? I'm more of an old-fashioned stereo audio guy kasi kaya huling huli ako sa TV upgrade, heh heh.

OT: Yung vintage Trio KA-9006 na galing sa iyo, na-awitan ng professor friend ko from UP Los Banos and paired it with a nice set of vintage Victor two-way bookshelf (with 10" wooferJ) from Sir reymer.  The combo sounds great!
