LED electricity savings vs LCD/Plasma
« on: Oct 26, 2010 at 10:07 PM »
I keep on reading that LED saves energy as against LCD/Plasma. Can you give me some approx numbers in this regard?

Say between Panasonic Plasma 50" vs samsung LCD 50" vs Samsung LED 50"

Ilang watts for each TV?

Let's say that:
Panasonic Plasma 50" = 400watts
Samsung LCD 50" = ???
Samsung LED 50" = ???

Follow up question: How much savings in pesos will one save on a monthly basis given that the TV is used at an average of 10 hrs a day?

Of course I know that it will all depend on the brand/model/usage/etc/etc but say everything else is equal, can you give me your educated guess in answering the above mentioned questions.

I'm just trying to see if the additional premium in purchasing an LED TV is justified in terms of savings in electricity. (Let's say that PQ and all others are equal for the moment)

Thanks

With the huge price difference, especially the 55" ones, I dont think you can save in the long run.

Hahaha para ngang showroom kung 10 hrs a day, lalakas nga sa konsumo ng kuryente lalo na kung 50inch-up yung size. Maybe I suggest, kung pang-maghapon tapos cable tv use only,  buy a smaller lcd tv around 32inches that consumes around 90 to 100watts lang tapos pag mga HD quality movie then use the bigger screen and the 5.1 or 7.1ch sound set-up, for a total enjoyment at wag na muna i compute yung total wattage hehehe :)

Here we go again about comparative power consumption?

Ok if I use the above figures (look reasonable enough in my opinion), my Panasonic 50V20 is expected to consume 35kWH per month at 10 hours a day - (pls. dont ask for my computation dahil paulit ulit ko nang na-post dati).

So if I use a 50V LED, I will consume 17.5kWH per month -  makakatipid ka ng 17.5kWH per month relative to plasma.

So how much do you care about ecology and global energy conservation compared to let's say - your wallet?  Mas matindi/madugo pa yung ROI ng LED HDTV kesa sa ROI ng Toyota Prius, kase yung Prius, you have a good chance of recovering the premium cost if you drive it very far and/or use for many years.  Eh yung premium ng LED, I dont think you would ever be at par with the total cost of a plasma because in 5 years, sawa ka ng sa TV, or, sira na yung TV.

How much ang 50V na Samsung LED?

Or in 3 years, mababa na ang price ng LED TV.

As what I have posted earlier in the other thread:

"Saw it on TV saying that the cost of making LED LCD TV is cheaper than making CCFL LCD TV. So, am looking forward for the LED TVs to come down in price in the near future."

Hmmm ganun ba kahirap yung 10hrs a day? LOL

let's say madami kayong tao sa bahay and some just stays in the house. (Housewife/retired parents/baby that doesn't go to school or such). So pag alis mo sa umaga to go to work, naka ON na yung TV at nanunuod na ng news or ng barney/cartoons for the baby. Most probably isa sa mga matitira sa bahay eh manunuod ng TV or DVD or pag dating ng kids from school, video games. Merong uuwi ng half day at 12pm, meron at 3pm at 5pm, etc, etc. Naka ON yung TV until we sleep at night. Actually the 10hrs i'm stating is even conservative because we sleep late at night (11pm).

You get it now why I said 10hrs/day?  :D

but it's about to change soon since I will be on prolonged leave (indefinitely - most likely til next year or so).. kaya ubusin ko na lahat ng TV Series, Movies, XBox360 games na kailangan kong tapusin, etc.. :)

Example lang according to my observation pag 200KW/month cost around 2000php, pag 90KW/month around 800php lang.

If you're using it for 10hrs a day, then sulit na sulit yon. Just like a brand new car. If you seldom use it then lugi ka.

Our household averages about 10-12 hours a day viewing; we log more hours more during weekends. Its my non-schooling ling kid who takes the bulk of the tv's use. In the evenings the adults take control of the tv. :) In terms of electricity consumption, I think our LCD tv usage is not a major factor. The usage of other appliances like the aircon, etc has more impact.
