From what I read so far:

Panasonic - better blacks, IPS panels, one year warranty (not sure if Home Service)
Samsung - warm and reddish in tint/color, panel lottery (you're not sure if IPS panel or lower quality), 2 years service (not sure if Home Service, but sure [based on posted complaints] that their warranty services suck
LG - some models suffered excessive backlight bleeding problems (not sure if corrected in 2011 models), 2 years warranty (sure that they do Home Service and their warranty services will treat you like a king)

I've seen both, owned one...
sa mata ko mas maganda ang color quality ng Panasonic,
and I even asked around kung alin ang mas maganda talaga ang PQ,...
they all say Panasonic,...

Get the LG or Samsung for its 3D capability. Is the Pana 50 x30 supports 3D?

I own Pana 42x30 and I would recommend it for 42" non-3D anytime of the day. However, the TS is asking for 50" and 3D capability. So I think LG 50w350r is the best and the most cheapest among the 50" and 3D-capable.

But if the TS is looking for a non 3D panel, I think Pana 42x30 or 50X30 is a better choice.

Panasonic. If you want 3D at a bargain price, go for LG.

Just inquiring. How old is your 42x10?

I'm also looking to get the 42x30 but am concerned with it's short warranty period. other brands offer 2years warranty.

Have there been incidents of panasonic models that break down after a year?

My old 2008 32 inch LG plasma PC5r broke down only after 17 months. Am looking at panasonic but the standard 1 year warranty is just too "short" for a high price device.

Thanks and pardon the OT.

60 Hz refresh rate isn't the same as the 600 Hz subfield drive of plasmas. The 600 Hz is just a marketing tool. Doesn't change the fact that plasmas look better than LCDs though. Hahaha!

it's a simple way of saying that plasma does not need refresh rate counter ;D

IPS is for LCDs. The TS was asking about Plasma models.

If we're talking about LCDs, Samsung uses S-PVA panels. This is comparable to (and nowadays often better than) IPS panels in image quality. S-PVA panels typically offer deeper blacks, higher contrast ratios, and deep color support. IPS traditionally had an advantage in terms of viewing angle and color rendition, but that lead seems to have dwindled significantly.

samsung use s-pva panels, yes, BUT not in all units. It uses three types. The other two suck as per avsforum. The trick is getting the s-pva in the game of panel lottery.

how do we determine if a samsung has an s-pva panel?
