B&W 684 S2 and 683 S2 matching Amp
« on: Dec 01, 2014 at 11:50 PM »
Hi, I am looking for a complementary amp for a B&W 684 S2 and 683 S2. Narrowed it down to these three

1. NAD C325bee with DAC
2. NAD C375bee without DAC
3. Marantz PM6005

Any suggestions you may have outside of the three would be greatly appreciated.

Rotel amplifier is a very good match for your B&W speakers.

Sorry TS a bit OT sa choices mo pero try Sansui alpha series. You'll be surprised the way those speakers will sing. I have tried the Rotel rRC1550/ RB 1080 combo (200wpc), good combination with my 684 but..... IMHO the Sansui alpha 907 bettered them.
Me mga seller naman sa sulit, audi mo, maski alpha 607 lang then compare it with the contemporary amps on audio shop. First impression would be mararamdaman mo muscle ng alpha sa b&w speakers.

Hi, not to hijack this thread, but I am also interested in these speakers though mainly the 683 or 685. Is this series of B&W's a good match for tube amps, KT88 based, push-pull, with 22wpc on triode and 38wpc on ultralinear?

Sensitivity for the 683 is 89 db at 2.3v 1M.

Its for a small living room, pretty live acoustics. I listen to acoustic jazz and classical, with the occassional pop or fusion jazz. I don't like pumping up the volume but would rather listen at a volume where I can talk a bit with a louder than normal conversational voice.

At the present, my amp drives a classic AR92 floorstander. Although it has been an improvement from my old SS integrated amp, the AR seems to be a bit bass heavy (which is good for the tube, but a bit muddy). The high are ok (cymbals and plucks are clear) but they lack the airiness. I think it's just how AR's are. I am hoping the B&W's will improve this as I auditioned them in Watts Hifi MCSq but they were hooked up to a Rotel SS.

Hope you can help me here guys. Thanks!

I have owned several b&w speakers, at first i hooked em with rotel integs, pre/power, it was ok but when i got the chance to acquire a Sansui alpha 907 i sold all my rotel amps. It just sounds perfect for b&ws.

I'm currently using 683 S3 and it is easily driven by a 50watter KT88. I listen to all genre (ie pop, jazz, male and female vocals, classical) and it performs very well that I don't feel the need to upgrade.  I barely exceed the 9 oclock position.
