HK/YAMAHA : Good for audio or video? I have read here when I was a newbie that Yamaha excells in Ht while HK in both. I kinda realized lately that even Yamaha will perform as nicely in music as HK if you have a good dedicated CD player in bypass mode. Meaning you use the CDP's processors, not the receiver's (via digital connection).
IMO/IME, The audio processors of HK tend to be a bit better in music (if you are using a DVDp), while the Cinema DSPs of yamaha tend to excell a bit in HT. If you want Yamaha's DSP's, simply get a Yamaha plus a good CD player via pure direct mode and you got a good audio video setup. If you only plan to use a DVDp and listen to music a lot, go for HK.
If details are your thing in HT, go for the Yamaha. medyo manipis tunog but detailed. But if you want thick, mid range rich sound, go for HK. I have tested both recently (same class top mid lvl receivers)and thus my observations.
IMhO, if you plan to add power amps in the future, HK is the way to go. The preamp section is better than Yamaha for me (manipis kasi).
