« on: Jun 02, 2007 at 03:42 PM »
hi, what can you recommend a cheap used but good stereo amplifier that can drive Diamond 9.1 speakers?

preferably one below 5K. thanks. just for my room, music only, no plans of upgrading to a 5.1, etc. set-up.

Try to look for Japanese brands like: Denon, Marantz , Onkyo and other household names. American or European brands might way to expensive, but keep your nose stick to the market place to grab the best deal of the day!  ::)  ::)

Godd Luck and Happy Hunting. ..  ;D  ;D

Look out for a used nad304. I sold NOS (new old stock) before at P5.5T only and slightly used ones goes around 4t this days.
If your the adventurous type, hunt for mint integrated amps at pier. I have a Denon PMA510  with only 50w/ch that sells for 2.5T at pier that can compete with newer amps costing around 12t to 20t today! For your room and type of speakers, 50w/ch would serve your purpose.  ;)

Buying surplus amps at the pier is an adventure and an art. you might want to review this thread:

not only for the sellers' location, but for words of wisdom from those who went before. Be careful. The pier could be your bargain-hunter's paradise... or hell.

so true,,, many totl vintage amps/receivers are backbreakers 20kg+. if you dont have a car and the unit conks out on you, pahirapan. and you gotta have a good technician pref. sanay sa vintage audio.

if you got around 2.5k, try the PIONEER A-UK3 or A-UK3ii. check out the surplus amp thread.
