Is it possible connect a powered subwoofer to an HTIB?
« on: Oct 31, 2007 at 01:50 AM »
Im planning to purchase an HTIB this Dec and Im still scouting which brand would be best to buy. While checking the specs of the subs that's included which each system, I noticed all of them are using passive type bass modules and most manufacturers equip them with small woofers maybe about 5 to 6 inches on average on those not so expensive models. Of course as we all know, small subs = poor and inadequate bass or LFE reproduction. I own a DQ-12 sub which Im using with my current setup. I connected my dvd player's sub out to a Y rca cable hooked up the other end to the line level L/R jacks on the DQ. There are available high power speaker inputs on the sub as well, a pair for input and another for the output.

If i do buy an HTIB, will i be able to use my DQ-12 to improve low frequency performance?

This is what i plan to do. The HTIB has no analog audio outputs so I will definitely use the sub speaker out single wire and split the other end to 2 pairs and connect it to the L/R speaker inputs on the DQ-12. Will this work?

Im thinking that the speaker out signal from the htib is just a pass-through for the DQ, so can I still use the supplied sub of the HTIB and hook it up instead to either the L or R speaker outs from the DQ-12 for added bass effect? I could place this one beneath the sofa.

Any feedback from you guys will be most appreciated =)

then why dont you get an htib with rca outputs for your external sub? But your plan should work. Read your sub manual, i believe most subs have the left rca input that would compensate for both. You dont need to split the single speaker output of the htib. Regarding the addition of the stock passive sub from the htib, i suggest you just use it for a different setup instead.
