Using Different brand for bi-wiring & bi-amping
« on: Oct 13, 2008 at 11:16 AM »
I have a set of speakers which i can bi-wire. I will be using an amp each to drive the Left center & right. One amp will drive the low & high frequency channel separately. This mean i will be bi-wiring and bi- amping at the same time. If say i use "A" brand for high frequency which i perceived to be good for high's and "B" brand which i perceived to have good lows. What's gonna happen? Will there be an advantage in this set up. Thanks in advance!!

I think you'll have a good biwired and biamped system ;) ;D Kamusta Don Ernie? seriouly I dont think you will hear much difference if you use diff cables for the hi-low freqs as long as they are using the same amp. Basta same length and same gauge na lang use mo para wala ka na alinlangan kahit dii brand ;) :)

You may want to read this before you take the plunge...
http://sound.westhost.com/bi-amp.htm#common-question

Basically, he's saying that: "Passive biamping (where two amplifiers are used in a bi-wiring connection) is, IMHO, a waste of money. Although there may be some moderate sonic benefits, they are not worth the expense of the extra amplifier."

If what he's saying is true, you're gonna have to go for an active crossover...

Thanks for the input Dindop.
I have 3 Bada amplifier and a Rotel amp. around thats why i went this route. This lead to the question what if i use a solid state amp to drive the low and buy a tube amp to drive the mid and High, will this route be advantageous? Would this make a difference in the Home Theater enjoyment especially concert program? How about those action or sci-fi movies? To All Gurus out there, Please Help!!!  Thanks in advance

Dami mong amp sir. Bagay na bagay pang bi-amp. Was planning to do the same kaso wala me oras. I got a 6 channel THX amp that runs around 120-150watts per channel - all 6 channels driven. Pang left, center and right ko sana kaso di pa kasi sonically matched yung 3 speakers ko. Cguro pag me pera na ulet. As far as advantageous, i guess you will be the only one who can tell if there is any. Use your ears, kasi sabi ng iba wala sabi ng iba meron. Ako, i just want to try it. Good luck Chief!
