My very first HTIB and I'm at a total lost on what's the best setting for this gear. So far the guys from Sights and Sounds did a good set up which added a +4 on the surround a +2 for the center. Any other settings for the PS3?

By the way, I set the PS3 to bitstream, so I could listen to DolbyTrueHD and DTS-MasterAudioHD. Which for my untrained ears, sound very well.

Congrats Sir Carlo!

I'm sure it'd complement whichever TV you hooked it up with. :)

Sights and Sounds, 23k

ah ok then you will be able to decode the full hd audio. set it up linear pcm

I tried that, and when the PS3 is set to PCM, the receiver displays "Multi-Channel PCM". If "bitstreamed", the audio lights up as either DD, DDTrueHd, DTS-MA, or the audio set on the disk.

Is there a difference?

Thanks

Hi Carlo. Congrats. This is for your bedroom right?  Are you using the full 7.1 or 5.1 speaker set up?  Have you tried to watch a action packed movie and experience the impact and sound quality of your speakers yet?

No doubt this is going to be the first of many home theater systems you acquire. I bet the living room will have a new HT for christmas and it will not be a HTIB. I bet your wife will be a big supporter of your newest hobby as it even brings the family together . Again congrats and good luck.  I look forward to reading your observations.

Sirs, does this sound better than the logitech z5500? In terms of

1. Clarity - Music and dialogue (movies)
2. Bass

Thanks sir Carlo :) Is it better than your previous panasonic HTIB?

Mga sirs, is this a good alternative for other HTIBs? I have heard a new HTIB from Denon is coming, Denon 1311 with powered subs. Hopefully, the price range is similar :)

Good thing you have slim ps3 and this htib works for you. But for me having fat ps3 make me returned this htib and gladly got full refund on my money. This htib have rear speakers switching problem when having pcm input, thus, fat ps3 cant bitstream hd audio and no choice but set it to pcm. See below detail got from onkyo press release...

May 25th, 2010
A firmware error has been found on some of Onkyo’s new A/V receivers and home theater systems. When playing back certain Blu-ray Disc and gaming software with 5.1- or 7.1-channel PCM audio content, the left and right channel output is reversed for the surround speakers. This occurs when the HDMI output of the source device (e.g. Blu-ray player) is set to multichannel PCM mode.

Initial production batches of the following models are affected by this issue:
TX-SR308, TX-SR508, HT-S3300, HT-S3305, HT-S5300, and HTX-22HDX.

Please note that no problems occur with a 2.1-channel configuration, or with formats other than multichannel PCM (e.g. Dolby Digital and DTS function normally).

Onkyo is providing a firmware update for each affected model. Owners are requested to contact their local Onkyo distributor.

I called ONKYO official distributor (Toyama Group Center) kasi and they didn't even know about the issue.

Yes, I'm aware of this issue that's why I keep my PS3 to bitstream. Hence, I can still get HD audio via a non PCM route (bitstream). So far it's very good...

I have an onkyo tx-sr308, what bluray/game titles have this 5.1 or 7.1 channel pcm audio/multi channel pcm content? How will I know that it is reversed?

Thanks.

maybe it's the sub crossover frequency.  adjust it in between 80hz - 120hz.  if that does not help, lower the subs db nalang :)

Crossover was set by my wife to 100hz, and she lowered bass and subwoofer to -2, "upped" treble to +2. Sounds nice already!

If you set your DB player to decode rather than AVR decodes, it will send PCM signal to AVR. It is easier to detect when playing games using PS3.

Still a bit strong on the base, would it be better to lower bass and sub level by 2 again?

Thanks!

but this only happens on high level volume.  keep me posted bro.

No brader, volume is only at 25-30. Base is fine, malakas lang ;)
