kolokoys from tipidpc.com halos 3-4x a year yata kung mag uwi ng lcdtv from singapore.

gudluck na lang brader, mababa naman pala ang odds na ma tax ka based sa experiences ng iba. but then again, in the unfortunate event na ma-tax ka, remember, you can not invoke sa taga boc na dapat hindi ka patawan ng tax dahil sabi ng iba ay nakalusot naman sila.

You go through customs regularly with an A/V receiver with you?

no, kahit kailan hindi ako nasita sa airport almost 10 years na rin na pabalik balik ako abroad, misan umuwi ako galing singapore, dala ko yung 2 boxes with cpu's inside na inassemble ko doon...ni hindi man lang ako tinanong, obvious naman na me dala akong electronics items...i guess YMMV..... ;D

it could also be that maybe alam nila na balik manggagawa ako kaya hindi ako sinisita.....kahit yung mga kasabayan ko hindi rin sinisita, marami kami kung umuuwi galing sa abroad..... ;D

Last May, I went to singapore and bought a brand new laptop. just put in my backpack and left the box in singapore. The customs officer asked me if i had any brand new electronic items. i said nope. I went my way.

A story from my friends - they went to singapore to buy an LCD projector, laptop, avr, digicam. What they brought was a label maker. they still brought the boxes with them. For the laptop, they loaded it with their company logo, and files so they could prove that it was used already and the LCD projector of course had a label of "Property of Company X".

When they went through customs ndi namn sila sinita, so their preparations were for naught. haha!

Dont appear like you are scared of the Customs.  They can hear and smell your fear of getting taxed.   Once they detect your anxiety and wry smile, tatawagin ka pa non sa pila (siempre they would not be interested to call someone who will simply pass through kasi walang potential na kita.. ;D)

Ako nga sometimes, kahit alam kong wala talagang taxable at all I pretend na I am rather worried about the big boxes Im bringing in kahit puro chocolate and foodstuff lang ang laman.  Para if a Customs inspector works too hard to find out any taxable item inside and find nothing at all, pinagod ko siya, simangot pa sya...then I show him my OFW card...  Nice to see their reaction after they realize na after all the efforts, they would just let me pass through   ;D

But if you read that Customs declaration paper well enough inside the plane, ang baba ng limit ng value ng duty free...as in a few hundred dollars lang ang equivalent and won't be able to cover a decent piece of electronics...and it is supposed to be applicable to all including OFWs. Kaso talagang mas lenient sila sa OFW, so unofficially lusot kaming OFWs all the time, so hindi ko maintindihan na they are issuing that written rule with regard to importation duty but not imposing those policies strictly well and consistently..in short, ang labo ng rules.

So just be cool and confident as you approach them.

You are allowed to hand-carry one luggage and you can buy those luggages with wheels.. ;)

You can bring as many luggages as you can (check-in) as long as total weight is 15kgs...(via cebu pac/airphil)...if via PAL usually 20kgs...some people what they do is put electronic items in one separate luggage...just place in between your clothes so there will be cushion...

As a personal experience, I've had no hassle bringing electronic items from SG/HKG to PHL...but I know during November and December, the customs officers are "stricter"...Good luck!

it depends on the airline na sasakyan mo.
When you choose your airline, check the luggage faqs of their website.
Iba-iba sila.

Talagang ubos ang normal weight limit mo (Asian destination/economy class) sa isang AVR palang because even an empty suitcase weighs between 5-8 kgs already depende sa material.

Balikbayan Box is a good option kung meron kang kilala sa Singapore who can arrange that for you.   2 weeks lang naman yon aabutin.  Wala pang problema sa importation duty - but advisable to keep the original packing hangga't maari.   BB would cost you nearly $100 I guess so dapat punuin mo para sulit and hindi maalog ang laman.

Yari ka kung LBC/DHL (Courier) dahil about 15-30 kgs ang gross weight depending on the class of AVR that you would purchase, and kapag courier service ang ginamit ko, kailangan meron proper invoice with the declared value for Customs Clearance purpose.

I think they only charge tax pag more than 1 unit of the same item.. in terms of forwarding an electronic item, I prefer using seafreight medyo matagal lang but the handling I think is safer.. SIngapore is around 3 days for seafreight..  :)

No such official ruling in the Philippines.  It's supposed to be determined by the category (if an item is taxable) and the cost (if the value exceeds the duty free ceiling - sa US it's 2,000 USD for personal items, sa Japan it's like 100,000 Yen, but in the Philippines, I think I remember seeing 10,000 PESOS sa Customs form).

As regards OFW, it seems the "special leniency policy (unofficial)" is like one piece per item per year (but meron pa ring question sa "per year" because I have brought the same electronics more than once a year).  Well anyway, kapag OFW ka and you dont look like a tourist, mabait talaga ang Customs...so dont look and act like a tourist whenever you travel...hehehe.

Portable items like cameras and laptops are easy na palusutin dahil bibitbitin mo lang and nobody at the Customs will really bother to question you kahit over $1000 ang value.  Buti nga they dont do the same practice sa EU na you have to declare your electronic stuff when you go out (to prove na owned mo na dati pa) and show that pagbalik mo ng bansa.

i sent a lot of balikbyan boxes to the philippines in my 4 years of working in Singapore, i paid an average of S$100 and never paid any taxes at all.......

sea freight takes about 1 month or more before it reaches your doorsteps....minsan nga nakauwi na ko at pabalik na sa singapore pero wala pa rin yung boxes...pero lahat naman ng pinadala ko nakarating sa amin sa nueva ecija..... ;D

Lahat yun used items kaya sinusulat ko used...items
Syempre wala ng box
More than 10x ko na nagawa to and so far no issues,
60 sing $ is 2000 php
Malaki b ang diff considering the risk ng ship cargo, and 2 wks ang delivery time if manila, syempre pag may bagong gamit gusto m na agad ma testing.
PM ka lang ser pag dating m dto sg if you need help

LBC is safe, actually safest but fr experience, tinatanong nila ano ba laman, magkano ba laman nito.
Ship cargo is still the cheapest way to send. May list ano ba laman pero di naman nila pinapansin at kina counter check ano ba talaga laman

Yeah kung BB, you can declare everything as honestly as you can (kahit brand new) and not be bothered about importation duties.  I dont think you would send anything outrageously expensive via BB anyways na puedeng pagnasaang nakawin.   Kahit nga ubod ng laking plasma or LCD na di kasya sa isang box, a BB company would likely charge you only 2x the regular box fee and sila na bahala sa lahat.

Ganon kabangis ang BB companies sa Phil Customs   ;D

this is good, @ wildfire why not buy more and then sell it here, hehe.. but seriously, I do not trust Airfreight for E goods unless properly crated yung item as in hindi kaya maihagis ng mga handlers,  :).. For the balikbayan box, the stadard size is 50x50 cm  if hindi kasya yung item they will charge by the weight or by the volumetric size, w/ever is higher.. It should be 1 week lang talaga kaya lng consolidators collect other boxes from other shippers so tumatagal like in the story of Tony, minimum kasi ng consolidator is 1 CBM which is around 5 to 6 Balikbayan boxes.. I was planning to purchase a TV from the US to be sent via Seafreight kaya lang naconfiscate ni misis yung funds, and it ended up with a bag (you know what i mean)...    :D

wow brader thanks it made my day.  :D

Pero most of the time iniaabot lang yung custom form no question asks then off you go....
