I guess you really cant expect much from a blu ray player that cost less than P3K.
It's a good secondary player, period.

I agree. But as a secondary SA for 3k, this one seems to be a bang-for-the buck deal. and it's cheaper too, compared with the other available bdps from CDRKing (which are just DTS/DTS 2.0 and not DTS-HD Master). the only major disadvantage nga is that it cannot read movie files. but for me, the thing that it has an option to change region coding for bds is the clincher! ;D

Agree 100% sir, im sure everyone has alternate means to play those files anyway!
It wont be long when they start making toasters with multimedia players.

BTW watched UP in full detail without any hiccups yesterday with the Memorex. I switched it back to Region A. I would have to say that it is a decent unit but as they say dapat hindi magsalita ng patapos.

Does the region hack (Bluray) for the Memorex player still work after the firmware update?

Would like to get this for Region B BDs, kaya lang, once this once conks out (You might have to import a Region B Player just to play those BDs (as the Memorex would probably be out of stock, by then...)

I know, that I would be better off buying the Region A BDs, but titles like Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is already out in UK and Steelbook pa! Sa US, it's regular plastic casing and another few weeks of wait...  oops, off topic.

Well, in my case, i didn't find it necessary to upgrade my firmware. The update specifically addresses the 2 issues experienced by a number of buyers, i.e., (1) audible noise during playback and (2) skipping. So far, i haven't had any of the those. i already completed watching 2 full movies without any issue at all. though i can't find a way through the available options/settings to check if my unit already has the updated firmware installed.

If you choose not to update, there is a chance that you won't be able to play mid to late 2012 bd releases.

I am getting the Memorex as my primary player, the PS3 will be relegated to backup.  Since okay lang kung masira lens ng Memorex kasi, hindi masakit sa bulsa (compared to the PS3).

Despite the low rating at Amazon, I think the quality of the Memorex is still way better than CDR-King's own Bluray player (which seems to be sold out in most of their stores).

Can you switch this memorex player to bd region all (region a,b,c)? Or only region specific? I hate switching it back and forth when I have to watch something. Pero mukhang ok itong player.

Unfortunately no. you can't make it an all region-player. the region change sticks until you modify it again.

It's been almost a year since I got my CDR-King BD player. The "turd" keeps on playing. Good investment for just P4k. I may upgrade to the memorex one if needed, because the firmware for the BDP-160 can't be upgraded and who knows what new tricks those bluray standards people have up their sleeves.

Looks like no one here is buying the HP bluray player that CDR King also sells. Is it a bad product?

Mine too :) :) :) And to think that we've since replaced our US-bought Samsung BDP in the living room with this one for our DVD marathon viewing sessions on the weekends for nearly 3 months running now (The Sammy wouldn't play our R3 DVDs).  Not a single hiccup in all that time. Color me lucky ;)

(This kinda reminds me of an old post of mine here, about how funny and sad our level of expectation from this brand is - the mere fact that it doesn't die on you out of the box is already cause for a positive testimonial, LOL)

Going 3D, at last! (And I don't care it it's a fad.)

injoy watching movie  ;D
