Hi there!

Newbie here, i'd like to ask your opinion about 3 of the most desirable plasmas available in the country today.
I've been itching for an upgrade for a looooong time, but it's just really hard to choose the most reasonable upgrade nowadays.. i'm in my early 20's so it's a make or break situation for me since i am the bread winner and i have a lot of other obligations.. haha!  ;D

Let me start off with the most reasonably priced:

Panny 42X30 (can't afford the 50" yet!)

best quote i got:
gameXtreme @ 25K

best feature i like:
picture quality + internet capabilities

worst thing to consider:
bulky (it's still fat compared to it's competitors) + doesn't play everything thru usb

Sammy 43D450/D490 (3D is over rated, no just can't afford it yet!)

best quote i got:
SnS @ 26.5K (non-3D)
voltz @ 33K (3D with 2 glasses)

best feature i like:
sharp looks + usb playability + that extra inch  ::)

worst thing to consider:
not so great picture and power consumption (well what do i expect from a plasma)

LG 42PW350 (ahhh, 3D again!)

best quote i got:
SnS @ 32.5K (3D with 2 glasses)

best feature i like:
3D??? + lowest power consumption vs. the two above (on paper) + LG's warranty fit for a king!

worst thing to consider:
pale picture quality..

Verdict:
I wanted 3D but it's not affordable (costs 6K to 7k more), i wanted that extra 1-inch and led-like slim panel but it costs an extra 1.5K! Panny packs good picture quality + internet + the best price but it's not a looker.. don't really know what to get until now!  ??? ??? ???

I think there's already a thread regarding/comparing these 3 plasma hdtvs. Base mo na lang decision mo dun. Personally i go for a panny is plasma talaga. Don't worry about usb playback capabilities since most probably you'll go the route of nmts.

best way is to audition side by side yun ginawa ko 50x30 vs 51d450 halos di naman nalalayo si sammy halos same deep blacks sila ni panny and tru calibration sa white balance halos pareho na ng picture quality yun kse nakikita ng mata ko hehe  thats why  end up buying the 51d450 coz of the plus inch,  better slim bezel and less reflective ang sammy over panny... malaking factor yung mga user review dto at  sa avsforum yun ang naging deciding factor ko thats y this time i choose sammy over panny dati kse akong 42x20 user hehe sinubukan ko si sammy so far no regrets...

chief, why not consider the 42v20 @ 39k sa SnS? Just like what the gurus have here (and abroad) said, it's one of the best TVs of 2010--they will blow the choices here out of the water, in terms of PQ, full HD, and black levels (infinite black). No problem with reflectivity, as well.

It might have 350W of power consumption, but since it's a plasma - you will not consume that wattage constantly (except if you're watching colorful movies, especially animation).

maliit lang din kasi yung house, around 6 feet lang yung viewing distance.. hehe  ;D

thanks again sir! might consider that after passing my CISA exam.. haha!  ;D

Good luck with your hunt! :) But between the choices, I will choose Panny - simply because of their mastery over plasma technology - and when you choose the plasma route, it's really PQ on movies that you're after.

Ok pass the CISA and get the V20...6 feet is far enough kahit 50V20 pa.   :)

hopefully by next year sir, cisa na & 50 inch tv pa... hehehe.. might go for the 42 panny for now  ;D

appreciate the helpful tips mga sir!  May God bless you all! :)

moral lesson :
sammy - looks can be deceiving , lg - price is not everything and the winner is.....
panny - picture with extra features.. fat but still hot.. cheapest but not the weakest.. one word "BEST"  :D

Mga sir, Noob question cause i never had an hdtv before specifically this model.

Can i hook this 42x30 directly to my analog cable without digibox (Viacomm cable here in Baguio)? Will i get the channels i currently have from my jvc sd tv? I plan to get this set 80/20 analog cable/720p br rips... Also, can i still have a splitter for my cable when hooked to this model of plasma.. Forgive my ignorance. Thank you very much for helping. ;D ;D

First, are you saying you have a digibox, but plan on not using it w/ your x30? Or are you assuming you need a digibox to get cable on an HDTV?

Just connect the x30 the way you connect your JVC TV to cable and that'll do it.

Anyway, I have skycable and I don't have a digibox.  I get cable fine and I also use splitters.

Viacom should work with this TV since LCD/Plasma TVs have analog tuners as well. I am also in Baguio and have tried both Sky and Viacom. They do work. I do not have the 42x30 but have a D491.  ;)

I assumed that i wont be able to get all the analog channels in hdtv. ie: 13 channles instead of 80 analog channels... tnx for the info.. ;D

Ty so much for the info. I thought new models of hdtvs only have digital tuners. How much do you think sns would  charge delivery from manila to baguio for this item? Im planning to get this in manila cause price difference is Night and Day..
