BPI my e-prepaid
« on: Nov 23, 2011 at 03:58 PM »

http://www.bpicards.com/Cards/PrepaidDetails/12

Is anybody currently using this card? My officemate introduced me to it, and it looks like it's perfect for secure, small transactions. I'd like to get a few more second opinions since I just recently got an e-credit card supplement and I'm not too fond of having so many cards

BDO sent me a similar card "BDO Virtual Card" for internet shopping but I have no idea how to use it.

I also have a BPI eCredit card. It's considered part of your existing card, can only be used with internet purchases, with limited credit limit (P 10,000.00 in my case). All purchases made using this card are reflected in the billing statement of your regular card. The lower credit limit means lesser risk you just in case your credit card is hacked. I used this often to buy music from US sellers (amazon, musicdirect, acousticsounds, ebay, etc.).

I've had mine for over a year already (na-renew na nga recently), but I only decided to use it for the first time last Nov. 13, after learning from an officemate how she's been using hers for her Amazon purchases. So far so good naman daw. The order got through to the online merchant successfully via PayPal, as documented via an emailed payment certification from the website; now I'm just waiting for my orders - two genuine leather cases for my Asus Eee Pad Transformer - to arrive via courier.

I decided to get my own BPI e-prepaid card for the holidays, and so far so good. Haven't used it in physical stores locally, but haven't had any problems online. My funds get deducted as soon as I make the purchase, so I can see how much I've spent right away. That's a big plus for my budgeting.

The only glitch I discovered was when I applied for Paypal. When they took 100 pesos off the card for verification, I could have sworn a few more pesos were deducted. The card statement said only 100 pesos was paid to Paypal, so I could have made a mistake with my calculations somewhere.

I also tried using it for services that don't usually allow a Philippine credit card, hoping that they'd accept it since it's ready money. No go :(
