I just read this topic.

no,..

its not a guarantee, somehow we still do not know what is really causing the rot on the discs...

honestly, mukhang mas matibay ang jack sparrow discs...  :P

I just checked my collection..

Some of my CD-Rs naman, may mga spots na talaga, as in kapag hinold mo against the light, light passes through the spots. As in they were stacked on top of each other for years na.

Guaranteed nakakatulong to keep moisture off, the main cause of fungus, foggy surface build-up ;)

Kailangan pa bang butasan yung silica gel pillows (pin holes)?

Its good that we have topics like this...I just finished putting those silica gels sa lahat ng collection ko...Now ko lang nakita me mga nag sta-start na magmold...Good thing nalilinis pa...Just use yung microfiber cloth, basain nyo lang konti then wipe nyo sa dvd...then dry it off with another miicrofiber cloth na dry...Thanks sa mga dvd gurus here, was able to prolong life span ng dvd collection ko...

Only disadvantage of the silica gel is that you have to let loose your collection...Nabuksan ko na lahat pati steelbooks ko... ;D

kung made in china at walang declaration, i will really think twice of using it.

If it is from US and it is not "declared", most probably it does not contain the said carcinogen.

So far so good. None of my DVDs seem to be rotting. But I'll make sure to buy more silica gel.

Unfortunately 3 dvds have been damaged - R1 (Finding Nemo and Kingdom of Heaven Director's cut) and R3 (Mission Impossible 3)

the wierd is that Finding Nemo and MI3 does not show any evidence of rotting but it does not play to any of my players. Then the Kingdom Of Heaven, especially disc 1 (it formed a clear ring at the middle between the edges and the center) haaayyy...

mahal pa namain sila nung nabili ko yun dti.

Starting to experience a lot of this dvd rot. I still keep some dvd as some extra features are not available sa bluray version nila like ung sa fantastic four. Imagine my suprise when i open my copy of ff to see that disc 1 is already rotting. Good 2 yung disc 2 is nababasa pa so i was able to make a back up of it.

Some of my DVDs from +/- 8 years ago have started to rot. I found out about this while I was transferring my entire DVD and CD library into external HDDs when I decided to fully migrate away from optical media this year. The discs that have rotted are only those which I suspect are the low quality made or fake ones.

I have to admit though, that these discs have not been stored in the most ideal conditions.

I really need to check my DVDs and CDs on storage (plastic storage boxes). I have silica gel packets included in these containers but I haven't checked on these for the past 3 years. Hope they are still playable. Some of the titles are not available on Iflix, Netflix and Spotify so its really a concern.

Yup me too. With the hot and humid weather here, i think our discs are gonners. I already moved a lot of my dvd discs to dvd binders but i think they will still get damaged.

I will be moving my blurays and place it sa discsox sleeves. Ok yun discsox, but expensive.

Binders are too tight for the discs imo

The heavy downpour last thursday PM (Jun 21,2018) caused water to creep into my boxes that included my stored DVDs. Now, I need to check if any of the discs have been affected. Extreme moisture = DVD rot.
