I think he was offered an extension but didn't sign it. He will opt out after this season in order to get leverage in the free agent market so that he can get a higher offer from Utah or from other interested organizations. It is the smart thing to do.

I would blame Darvin Ham for this loss. It’s no secret that the Lakers do not execute plays well in crunchtime, but he doesn’t call a timeout and lets WB play it out. Plus his combinations on the floor sometimes don’t make sense, especially on the defensive end.
