If you think about it, what Ja did was not illegal at all.  Majority of US states allow open carry.  It's just that the NBA has a great need to be relevant to the times by espousing politically correct stance on most issues.

not illegal but it is against NBA policies and there were previous similar cases that were metted with long suspensions ... para lang nagtratrabaho sa isang kumpanya, you have to abide by company policies ... yung kita nya sa endorsements malaking tama sa kanya. quite obvious that you can't have a gangster image to promote those products

True.  It is not about whether or not what Ja did was illegal.

There are morals clauses in NBA players' contracts and these were approved by the NBA Players Assoc.   The basic definition would be acts that the NBA deems to be "detrimental to the league".  This was actually mentioned in the NBA statement on Morant's first offense.







These types of addendums are also on image sponsorship contracts, which is why companies like Nike and Adidas can cancel the likes of Pacquiao and Kanye, respectively.

He was suspended for the rest of the 2009-10 season after investigations were concluded in January 2010. In 2021, the NBA suspended Malik Beasley for 12 games for a gun-related incident off-court that led, however, to felony charges (threatening to commit a crime of violence).

Morant was suspended for eight games for his first infraction in March. Most likely the NBA will more than double his next suspension since he is a repeat offender, even if his second infraction was not illegal in itself. Wild guess, but I think it will be around 20 games (or a fourth of the season).

Based on reports on the new CBA taking effect next season, it’s a minimum of 65 games played. So a suspension of at least 18 games kills any aspirations for Morant to get awards and the financial benefits that come with them. Yeah, this is plausible. It would also be more than double his earlier suspension.
