During the Marvel panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the title and length of the upcoming Daredevil Disney+ series, Daredevil: Born Again, were announced.

The series will span 18 episodes and will stream on Disney+ in the spring of 2024. Both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will return to the series as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin respectively.

Written and executive produced by Covert Affairs creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord, the new installment centers on Cox’s title character Daredevil, otherwise known by the name Matt Murdock, who is an attorney by day and crimefighter by night. D’Onofrio reprises his role as mob boss Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin.

Details about Gandolfini’s character are being kept under wraps; it’s possible he plays an ambitious guy from Staten Island referred to as Liam. Reps for Marvel and Gandolfini had no comment.

Jon Bernthal Returning as the Punisher for ‘Daredevil: Born Again’

Jon Bernthal is returning to his most punishing role. The actor will reprise Frank Castle, aka antihero the Punisher, in Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again for Disney+, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

Bernthal joins Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio in the series, which begins shooting in New York this month. In a departure from other Marvel series, which come in at six or nine episodes per season, Born Again is planned as a whopping 18-episode epic. Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are behind the show, which is expected to bow in the spring of 2024.

Daredevil: Born Again Production Paused Indefinitely

The upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again has had its production paused for an indefinite period of time.

Deadline is reporting that production on Daredevil: Born Again has been paused three months into shooting until the ongoing writers’ strike is resolved. Though the series has shut down production temporarily on a few different occasions due to the strike, it seems that it is now paused until after it is resolved.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Releases Writers and Directors as Marvel Plans Overhaul of Series

“Daredevil: Born Again” is undergoing a major creative overhaul, Variety has confirmed.

The Disney+ series from Marvel Studios has recently parted ways with head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman and is currently seeking new writers to revamp the show. Ord and Corman will still be credited as executive producers.

And with less than half of the series’ 18-episode order shot prior to the beginning of the SAG-AFTRA strike, Marvel has also released the directors for the remaining episodes of the season. Some elements of the already shot material will be used going forward, but Marvel is looking to take the show in a new creative direction.

‘Daredevil’ TV Series Lands New Showrunner, Directors

Marvel Studios’ Daredevil television series has a new creative team.

Dario Scardapane, whose recent credits include Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as well as Netflix’s Marvel show The Punisher, has been tapped to act as the new showrunner for the series, which is in the midst of a creative overhaul.

Additionally, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, the co-directing team behind indie genre thrillers who are coming off of directing episodes of Loki season two, have been hired to helm the remaining episodes that will constitute the first season on Disney+.

Daredevil: Born Again was in mid-production in New York when the writers and actors strike forced it to pause. When Marvel execs reviewed the footage, they had a change of creative heart and decided to go into a new direction. The show was being spearheaded by Chris Ord and Matt Corman who were acting as head writers, but have since departed.

Daredevil is one of Marvel’s longest-running creations and previously headlined a successful three seasons on Netflix in the mid-2010s featuring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer turned superhero. The series, as well as its spinoff Punisher, was known for his action and gritty violence. Marvel decided it wanted to harken back to the tone of that first series.

Marvel will keep some scenes and episodes that have already been shot, though other serialized elements will be injected. Scardapane will write the new episodes and new scenes, incorporating what was already shot.

Benson and Moorhead will direct the new episodes to bring this first season to a close. It is unclear how many episodes it will encompass.

Report: Daredevil’s Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson Returning for Born Again

Netflix Daredevil stars Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson will reportedly appear in Disney+‘s Daredevil: Born Again after all.

According to noted industry insider Jeff Sneider via his blog, The InSneider, Woll and Henson will reprise their roles as Karen Page and Franklin “Foggy” Nelson, respectively, in Daredevil Born Again. The two actors, who starred in all three seasons of Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix, were noticeably absent from Born Again’s initial cast list.

Sneider reports that Woll and Henson’s addition to Born Again comes as a result of the creative overhaul that saw Dario Scardapane take over as showrunner of the Disney+ series. That said, it’s currently unclear how big a role Karen and Foggy will have in the new show.

Bullseye is back. ComicBook.com can report Wilson Bethel's Benjamin Poindexter, a fan-favorite from the third season of Netflix's Daredevil, is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe during the events of Daredevil: Born Again. While it's unclear how extensive his role will be, Bethel's beloved Bullseye will, in fact, appear. Marvel did not respond to comment.
