We're down to the last day of the regular season on Monday with several playoff positions still to be determined.
In the East, BOS is locked in as the top seed overall, while CHI and ATL will be battling in the 9/10 play-in game. The rest of the EC playoff picture is still unclear. MIL has an inside track on the second seed and holds the tiebreaker over NYK if they both win their final game (vs ORL & CHI). However, if NYK wins and MIL loses (likely scenario: road game with Giannis out and Lillard probably out), then NYK 2 and MIL drops to 4, with CLE moving up to 3. CLE goes all the way up to 2 if all three teams end up tied (i.e., MIL & NYK both lose, and CLE wins), with MIL 3 and NYK 4.
ORL, IND and PHI currently have the same record, with ORL owning the tiebreaker. Likely for all three to win their final games (vs MIL, ATL & BKN), in which case ORL 5, IND 6, PHI 7. MIA is likely to settle for 8th.
In the West, only the 4th (LAC) and 5th (DAL) seeds are locked in. Assuming OKC, MIN and DEN win their final games, they will be seeded in that order for the WC playoffs. OKC will face DAL at home with Luka & Kyrie confirmed to be sitting that game out, so the Thunder are expected to win this. Costly loss for DEN earlier against SAS, but they should take care of business against MEM. MIN will face a tougher opponent in PHX, which also has a lot to play for. Assuming OKC & DEN win, but MIN loses, then OKC 1, DEN 2, and MIN 3.
The rest of the WC playoff contenders in the bottom half are also going to play important games on Monday. NOP needs to win over LAL to lock in the 6th seed and avoid the play-in. But if they lose and end up tied with PHX (if it beats MIN), it's PHX which gets the 6th seed. PHX will be seeded no worse than 7.
The Lakers got lucky earlier not only with the escape win over MEM, but also with NOP and PHX winning on the road vs GSW and SAC. If the Lakers win their final game vs. NOP, they will be the 8th seed for the play-in. If the Lakers lose, they can drop to as low as 10th. GSW & SAC are expected to beat their final opponents (UTA & POR) and own the tiebreaker over the Lakers, so the Lakers can't afford to lose and end up with the same final W-L record as GSW & SAC.
