I was looking for a generic DVD player as a gift to my parents last Saturday (price range P2,000-2,500) at Raon; met Alfie pa nga and was given a tour to the various stalls that offer the cheapo generic players including his recommended
RONGXIN 215, but at the end of the day, the
LEXING DV-8800 became my final choice... haaay at last, I won't be bringing my XTREME DVD player anymore when visiting my parents in the province...

Pros:- Read all my test/problematic discs
- Fast reading of discs; even reads a badly scratched disc
- Sleek and slim design; dehins chipipay-looking
- With games (pampatahimik sa mga may makukulit na anak katulad ko
)
- Fast reading/display of JPEGs
- Darn cheap for an almost fully-featured DVD player
- Attn RobertJ: (a) the player read the end credits of Austin Power's Goldmember (HK DVD) flawlessly, (b) plays anamorphic PAL encoded discs correctly and (c) has no lipsynch problems
Cons:- Combing artifacts encountered when playing my
QUEEN: We Will Rock You by MCD test disc; almost all generic players has this problem with the exception of my XTREME 6500A and Nextbase (first batch) DVD players
- Digital echo is not that good, it's quite irritating to the ears :-/ Good thing I have a mic w/ built-in and controllable echo
- No built-in fan (heatsink only) although after playing movies for 6 hours and Karaoke session with my mom and dad (non-stop w/out utilizing an external fan), the unit is not that hot to the touch and no freezing/hanging problems encountered tapos nung pagkapanood ko nagbabad pa sa paglalaro yung mga kids ko for another 3 hours
- No STEP and LAST MEMORY functions; Fast Forward is up to 20X only; No Video Bitrate feature; Screensaver is so simple - bouncing "DVD Video" text only; packaging box is not the carry-case type like that of XTREME or Nextbase in this case para kang bumili ng gas stove
But for its dirt cheap price, the aforementioned deficiencies are forgivable
Price:
P2,150 only with one year warranty
Bought the unit from Stall 52 at Raon Shopping Center where I got my ultimate generic DVD player (
XTREME 6500A)
