The Last Temptation Of Christ R3
« on: Apr 30, 2002 at 09:46 AM »
Has anybody bought this title? I want to know if it has all the features listed in its R1 counterpart.

Would you rather buy this or the Criterion Collection?

I'd rather have the criterion collection version.

You know what, I think I'll go for the CC too.

I just saw the R3 edition and it has no features whatsoever. The lack of respect that the R3 manufacturers had for this title appalled me enough to want to pay extra for the edition that does the movie justice.

Okay, I just bought the re-release of this title for Php 350.

If this is one of those "Budget DVD9" discs, then it's a very good product. Region Free, DVD9, pristine picture quality on my LCD screen, and the print on the disc itself is very good - smooth, fine print like an import product, unlike the budget DVD5 titles I used to see.

Thumbs up to these 350 peso "budget" titles!

Sir, please clarify. What did you mean by "if"? Is this really a DVD9?

It's probably an exact copy of the first release. I also got one last week and is certainly quite good for a 2-hr 40-min film in terms of PQ and SQ on DVD9. I'd consider it a real bargain from what it used to be at 895.   The bitrate seems high ranging from a low of 4.4 mbps to a high of 9 mbps, mostly registering in the 6.5 - 7mbps rate -  close to superbit rates.

It's DVD9 alright.  My PC reads 7.49Gb content with seven 1Gb VOB files out of 16 VOB files.  It must be an exact copy of the original first release.  Not a "budget" version where they usually shrink a DVD9 content to a DVD5.  I consider it a real SALE reduced from its 895 price when first released years ago.  Except maybe the packaging and lack of insert.  ;D

Since it's dvd9, there's really no reason why they should re-encode it...  and digital content loses nothing whether it's local or imported disc.  PQ and AQ should be just as good... the only unknown is whether the local disc replicator is error-prone or not and disc durability...

I also bought this because it's 350.  Being a Catholic, I know this film is blasphemous and would not have bought it at fullprice, but at 350, it's worth a spin as a film lover...

Interesting though, that the owners of Magnavision (which seems to be members of an evangelical organization [as per the DaVinci Code thread] would release this and Jesus Christ Superstar as both are heretical in nature...

What I meant was, during the release of "Casino Royale," a lot of the freebie discs they were giving out were listed either as "Budget DVD5" or "Budget DVD9." I had no idea what a "Budget DVD9" disc was, and thought it was a misprint on the list of available titles.

When I purchased this title at Php 350, I came home expecting it to be a DVD5, and was pleasantly surprised when my DVD drive said it was a DVD9. So, if this is an example of what they call a "Budget DVD9," then it's a VERY good buy at the Php 350 price.  :)

Goes to show that religion and business don't always mix.  Like an Iglesia Ni Cristo follower I know who has a carinderia serving among others, dinuguan.   ;D

probably anticipating people to grab "relevant"/"holy" themed movies for a viewing marathon for the coming lenten season/extended long weekend...noticed this DVD being displayed along with Jesus of Nazareth and Jesus Christ Superstar, also Passion of the Christ was down at P299 and Ben-Hur set was being sold at P999 (or was it P899?) during the Ayala sale...
