I received confirmation from Pioneer's local distributor that their new DV-989AVi-G flagship model is now available in the Philippines. Specs for this player are supposedly comparable to the Elite series in the US:

since I have the 969, I will just wait for the toshiba hd dvd by march. the top of the line is just 900 dollars srp

I merged your thread with the older one. If you check the first post, the DV-989 was Php43-K at launch but prices have probably come down a bit since then.

Just to clarify, the "G" & "S" refer to the colors. Pioneer released the gold DV-989AVi-G in Q1 2006. The silver DV-989AVi-S just came out recently.

As of now, the price of this baby is still 45k i saw it in greenhills virramall yesterday.  I don't know why they aren't still giving up and decide to trim down their price a bit even though they realize HDDVD/Blueray is hot on their trail.

I found one in Abensons Shangrila and it sells for only 13398   I am not sure if I saw the price right because of the price in this thread (maybe it's 3 months 0% interest?)... I was going to buy this tonight but checking the specs there is no DIVX playback and I'm not much into audio so I'll go for 696AVS

  hehe it should be.. coz if that's true i'm willing to buy another dvd player for sure. Anyway, 696AV is also good in audio if you're lucky to get the burr brown version of it.

Meron na pala nito pioneer dv-lx50 , specs are very similar with the previous one except it can now upscale to 1080p. Lagyan natin ng pics pampagana lang..
