Nadal is a great player, without a doubt almost the same level as Federer,
it just so happens that Nadal is much motivated lately, and the fact that he improved a lot
since last year. That's tennis my friend, like in any other sport, you win some, you lose some.

To both of them... Congratulations..

The style of nadal makes me wonder how long can he last? he can't be strong and athletic all the time. In 3 or 4 years time, he might get permanently injured or slow down na.
On the other hand, federer's style can last him up to early 30's if he decides to still play above 30.

Federer winning the 2008 US Open and his 13th Grand Slam - one shy of Pete Sampras' record.. :)

...they still ring in my ears...

federer needs to win the french open next year to really secure his place in history.

as long as nadal is healthy, i don't think fed can beat him in roland garros.

True especially since Sampras never won at Roland Garros either.

Wouldn't it be sweet for Federer to get his record tying title at Roland Garros.  That would put him a notch above Sampras even if they both won the same number of titles.

great display of skills today by federer. since i woke up to a lopsided one-set lead by roger, i focused on just watching him at work and not watching the ball or murray. brilliance.

about records - well, they are meant to be broken.

more important for tennis fans, roger is back on form, and he has been joined by several top-caliber players at the top: nadal and djokovic, and now murray, with del potro, gulbis, and others rising fast.

I was wondering, if Federer had lost the US Open crown too, he might have followed Borg's path to retirement in 1981.  So glad his 2007 season ended on a positive note despite losing his No. 1 ranking, the French, the Wimbledon and the Olympics.  BTW, does Federer have a full time coach or his cuty girlfriend is also in charge of his training, among other things?

Hi Hubes.  Now that I know you're interested in tennis, I think I have Xmas present for you (assuming I spend the holidays in Manila).  What about the greatest championship match of all time (Wimbledon 2008 finals) in high def glory?   Cheers Bro.

yup federer has a coach and i think it has something to do with him losing the french open and wimbledon finals. kasi i think he hired a new coach nung start of the year na kilalang specialist sa clay na i think coached michael chang when he won it. yung kanyang gf todo support talaga sa kanya. sana naglalaro din ng tennis yun para pwede sila sa mixed doubles :P

The cuty gf was a national tennis player in her teens so she must be quite good in the game as well.  That's how they met, I read.   I guess na TL si Roger because as "bigger than life" as he is, he could easily date celebrities just like McEnroe, Connors, Sampras, Becker and Agassi.    ;D

for me, the most impressive player in the us open has got to be murray. i mean he defeated the world number one (nadal), played entertaining tennis, and that's why he deserved his ascend in the rankings. it has gotta be tough for andy to play in three straight days, your opponent has got a whole day of rest, and have to battle nerves and mental toughness in the finals in arthur ashe stadium. i went to the us open in its early stages two weeks ago and arthur ashe stadium is overwhelming if you are a tennis player. the place is huge!

now if murray can sustain his momentum and do a 'djokovic' (last years us open finalist) which means using the grandslam final experience and use it to win a grandslam right away or just win the season-ending masters champhionships, then he's definitely a staple in the top rankings.

just that don't do a 'fernando gonzalez' (last year's aussie open finalist) and just a flash in the pan

federer should really thank murray for beating nadal, kasi if it were nadal in the finals, i think matatalo sya.

federer's record is already established, he doesnt have to do anything and he'll still be remembered as one of the best if not the best. He doesnt need roland garros. Although getting the french open will make him the best ever without a doubt. IMO, he'll probably get 17-18 grand slams before he retires.

i guess you noticed that since federer kept losing to nadal, he already comes to the net often. Dati puro baseline lang sya. But he's not going to beat nadal that way. The only way to beat nadal for federer is to serve and volley (specially in clay). If i were federer i would get stefan edberg as coach.

Who will he be playing?

That Safina Williams match is looking interesting too.  Rooting for Safina there, but Williams is just so strong :D

Grabe yung match na yon. Whatever happened to the baseliners who just returned the ball to the center of the court? Yung parang nagwa-warmup lang sila, hehe. Di na tuloy boring ang baseliners. ;D

^fantastic match last night! sayang nga kasi when i got home and it was already the 4th set, with Verdasko leading 4-3. by the end of the 4th set, Verdasko had something like 91 winners but 69 errors.
