Am interested in switching to Destiny Cable, but do not know details or channel lineup for this. Is there a website for Destiny Cable?  Thanks.

Destiny Cable Official Site: http://www2.mydestiny.net/Global-Destiny/index.htm

The Wikipedia post of the channel line-up is a lot easier to read through, though: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Destiny_Cable

Note the "Future Channels" section at the bottom of that entry.  :)

If I switch to Destiny, the only thing I will really lose is the Lifestyle Network. The only show I watch there is Iron Chef America and various other Food Network shows.

Wow, Star Chinese movies is going back to Destiny! It's getting harder and harder to ignore Destiny. The only reason I'm still sticking it out with Skycable is for ANC. :(  I might be forced to go back to having two cable providers next year. Gastos na naman.

Smart of them, since every Filipino really wants to see his local news in HD.  ::)

Thanks.  I inquired with Destiny Cable. And basically was told that the P3k promo they have would not include premium channels such as BTV.  To get this, you need to avail of their premium package. Additional P2,700.00 (P1,500.00 for the set-top box + P1,200.00 advance 6 months subscription fee), and every after 6 months you will be billed P1,200.00 for the 6 months subscription of the premium package. So it will be like (P3000.00 + P2,700.00+ P1,200.00) = P6,900.00 for your 1st year, plus taxes et al.  The following year you will have to pay regular prices again (over 5k per month plus P2,700 + 1200.  With this rate, its not much different from Sky.

Can you please confirm the same?

Thanks again.

Since I don't have control over the cable provider at our place and since it looks like there's no plans to switch to destiny, it looks like I'll have to endure a Solar-less Sky.  :( Or maybe watch less cable.

Does this mean I now get to have a life?  ;D

I think BTV will no longer be a "premium" channel come January 2K8, at least that's what a Destiny rep told me.

guys, Destiny is showing signs that STAR channels will be back. Phoenix Chinese Channel replaced CCTV-9 and Phoenix InfoNews Channel replaced MBC last Dec. 10. Phoenix channels are partly owned by STAR. I do wish STAR's channel will return to Destiny, especially STAR Chinese Movies.

Talked a couple of destiny reps already n they both indicated uncertainty on plans for BTV/Solar, whether it will no longer be a premium channel next month.  Too bad as I'm ready to jump ship only if there is confirmation and I need not subscribe to premium channels.

Was surprised to see this notice appear during last night's Ellen: "etc 2nd Avenue will be moving to freeTV, RJTV beginning January 2008"

So it seems that Skycable viewers will still be able to get some Solar channels--unless Sky blocks RJTV.  ;D

hmmm..... so it's getting clear to me now. one of the reason probably for solar's foray into freetv is so that they can still compete with sky's alternative channels. pero sino kaya ang at a disadvantage since it will also mean sky can still air some of solar's channel thru these 3rd party sources.

Sky can't. RJTV is a free TV channel and all Free TV channels are required to be carried by the cable operator as part of their channel lineup.

I think the loser here is... Destiny, since less people will shift out.

It's a win-win situation for Solar - Sky's forced to carry them, so they won't have lost ad revenues due to a large decrease in number of viewers.

Just my opinion.

Solar needs to have additional eyeballs for its programming when they lose the Skycable platform. Solar may not be able to justify their rates to the advertisers if there is a significant deduction in potential viewers. Destiny numbers cannot just simply match Sky sub base in so short a time hence Solar needs additional/new platform besides their limited blocktime with RPN 9. With RJ-TV plus RPN, they can still claim presence in the Skycable platform. The main difference now is that instead of money coming into Solar from Sky, it is now money out of Solar going to RJTV for a blocktime agreement (which I think Sky wants in  the first place - collecting block time fees from Solar since it is engaged in local commercial insertions)
