Sir Jake, mahirap pong sumabay dyan kay Froot! Hinde po ako computer savvy tulad nya. At pagka-alam ko, it's expensive to build a HTPC. Also, parang nakakalito...so many parts to consider. Hinde ko talaga alam yung necessary components.

Bro, hindi ako techy guy.   It just so happen that I need to have a new PC, so I decided to have this first (a must kasi sa bahay) then what I will do is just add some components into it. Parang nilagay ko lang sa loob ng PC ko yung NMT, yung sayo naman nilabas mo, so I get to use my PC in two ways sa bedroom using our plasma.

Bro, hindi ako techy guy.   It just so happen that I need to have a new PC, so I decided to have this first (a must kasi sa bahay) then what I will do is just add some components into it. Initially, I have decided to just go with the Egreat and the Oppo as an upgrade for my HT set-up. Now, due to budget constraints, I don't think I can afford both. But will certainly prioritize the Egreat between the two. Since I do need an upscaling dvd player, I am considering this unit:


Philips DVP3980K/98 Upscaling Player

Based from the inputs of Doc Nerve, it is a very good upscaling dvd player. But there are pros and cons...

Pros:
Price is relatively cheap for an upscaling dvd player
Philips is known to be the "King of DVD's" in terms of playing any type of formatted disc (not choosey)
Upscaling capabilities is good
The unit is colored black

Cons:
No USB port
No provision for Optical Cable (Coax only)
No internal DTS decoder (to be verified)

My question now is...should I consider this than the Oppo due to price?

Points to consider:
Oppo is a superb player but expensive!
Oppo has USB port. (but do I still need this if I will be getting the Egreat?)
Oppo has provisions for Optical Cable. (is SQ better using optical cable or coax?)

sa akin sir stick, there is virtually no difference if its coax or opticle, its a matter of preference. usb port. if you want to watch divx, just use the egreat.

if its budget constraint, you have no choice but to get this player or if you choose not to buy right away, then save more then go with oppo, para you wont upgrade na after. i say. save more then go oppo.

Thanks Sir iiinas for your opinion on the matter! I forgot to mention that my current dvd player will be gone by Saturday, as someone is buying it from me. Hence, I won't have a dvd player.

Bro, how about Ricky's advise. If your present DVDP is still working, DON'T REPLACE.    The upscaling is not a night and day thing. HTPC? may PC na ka, may HD player ka pa....

brader stick, i have the same player as xxxyzledge's.  and i believe we have the same panel (i think   ).  IMHO PQ is good for this player.
