Good Grief... After 25months of using the LG 32 Plasma 32PC5R as my main TV & HTPC monitor, I'm sad to report that the MPEG board of my unit has gone bad and needs replacement...

I have already reported it to LG customer service and they have sent technicians at home to check and do diagnostics on my unit... After several testing and analysis... they have concluded that the MPEG Board (Tuner) needs to be replaced.  LG has quoted 11k for the parts and service with a 3month warranty.

The 32PC5R is still functioning as my main HTPC monitor via HDMI connections....
I'm still able to use it for browsing the net and watch my 720p/1080p MKV without any problems.

Color is ok and just like it was when i first got the unit back in June 2008.

The problem is when I switch to Cable TV... I get Black and White images only... Sound is OK... But the color is gone... No fun watching B&W cable tv...

I need your help guys...

1. Do I go on with the repairs @11k and take a chance to bring back this aging unit back to its original form?

or

2.  Keep it as is and use it as my HTPC monitor and look for a replacement unit (32/42 incher unit)

Based on current repair costs (which I believe is too much) OPTION 2 would be a batter choice...

Thanks PDVD...

Mabigat ata yung 11k for repairs. If you have around 40k for a plasma, get a Panasonic (42C10 ata or 42A2). You can use the LG for media players, DVD players, HTPC, etc

Ours is still working great but it's sparingly used.

Thanks... yan din plano ko muna...

buy a PCI TV tuner and connect it to my HTPC...
then connect the TV cable box to the pci tv tuner card and signal will be sent from my htpc to the LG32 Plasma via HDMI...

Hopefully i'll be able to make it work :)

defer muna plan for a 42 inch tv... until December 2010... :)

bro dont get pci tv tuner type, get a stand alone tv tuner, dependent sa PC mo yung pci tv tuner so dapat naka-on din yung pc  get kworld brand (trusted na kasi).  hth

Pinakamatipid na option: If you have an old VHS or even Betamax player gathering dust somewhere in your bodega na may built in tv tuner that will do the trick. ;)

Bad news.... Still getting bad (black & white / off color) images even if I installed a PCI TV Tuner card sa HTPC ko...

I tested a K-world PCI TV Tuner Card kanina... installed the latest Windows 7 software and drivers.... pero negative pa din.... Was not able to get good cable tv signals...

Looks like I really need to get a replacement TV...   :(

This LG 32 Plasma will end up as a dedicated HTPC monitor na lang ....    :(

bro get this instead.  use this on a free a/v connection.

tv tuner

stay away from pci tv tuners since they use the same coax input that is defective in the 1st place  :)

mga katukayong plasma user... kmusta mga plasma nio after 2 years?

may magrecommend po ba kayo na magaling at honest na magbgay ng tv repair service?

after almost 2 years, nasira daw ung board na may button ng ON/OFF and ung mgtrigger ng ON from remote.
so hindi na ngggamit ung plasma namin. huhuhu.

we tried to had service with LG, they saw na may lumubong capacitor, so they replaced it. however, indi pa rin nag o-ON ung plasma. tapos without futher diagnosys, nagdeclare agad na cira daw ung board that worth PhP9k! tapos we're not sure pa if that would really fix the problem.

thanks! thanks!

I have this LG 32" plasma and after 1 year and 1 month of minimal use, the tv won't turn on.  This has been connected to an AVR the whole time. I had the power supply repaired and the technician told me to use it more often.  So I relocated it to our sala and it has been working perfectly for another year until recently when turning on the TV the red light indicator doesn't turn to green and there is no audio and video.  I had to turn on and off the AVR until I get the TV to work.  If the TV turns on, it is fine with no problems whatsoever until I turn it off again.  Yesterday, I tried turning it on again and it doesn't respond. Went to all the rituals again and there was just one time that the TV turned on with a grey display. Whatever I press on the remote, it doesn't respond.  Then turned it on and off again but nada.  The red light indicator is lighting but doesn't turn on anymore. Is this the end of its life?

I have no qualms on the performance of the LG plasma.  The PQ is great i.e. if it turns on.

I have a Panasonic 42" plasma and a 32" lcd which were older than this LG and yet has been performing very well. Seems like I won't be buying any LG anymore even with their bang for the buck offers.

Yup sinabi mo. I haven't brought it to a service center yet.  Well, as you read the previous posts, you'd see that a lot had problems with this certain model.

I still have this plasma as my main TV for movies but upgraded already to a Pana. Had this since june 2008.  Once in a while, kahit bago battery ng remote, unresponsive to remote clicks ang unit.  Pressing the power on sa unit mismo has no problems.  So far so good naman.

Nagtataka lang ako kung ano ang logic nung nagsasabi na we should use the tv more often?  Parang kotse :D ??? ???

I wonder what percentage of LG units bought by PDVD members have conked out already??
