SkyCable is continue to dropped some TV channels this month. This year alone we lost AniPlus and K+ on the channel lineup. And this September, aside from Nat Geo and Nat Geo Wild ceases their channels on October 1, before that BBC News will ceased transmission on September 24. BBC News has a great run with Sky since its been in the channel lineup for almost 25 years. So sad that another channel will no longer be on the SkyCable channel lineup. And I don't think Sky will launch new channels soon since PLDT will gonna buy Sky assets and ceases is Cable TV division.

Speaking of PLDT, I have a new theory about buying Sky. Since PLDT owns Cignal if the PCC gonna allow to buy, I think SkyCable TV subscribers will switch Cignal service without switching to a cignal box or installing a Satellite. Just a simple channel scan (or maybe provide us with a Cignal Viewing Card insert to the digibox) and you have Cignal tv channels.

The removal of Nat Geo and Nat Geo Wild was a decision from Walt Disney International mismo (because they want to promote Disney+ throughout Asia-Pacific)

Still regardless:
AFAIK, SkyCable still has the widest channel lineup among all Pay-TV operators here in the country

So does this means that without ABS CBN broadcast franchise license, is SkyCable will affect too in the long run?  Is ABS CBN lying to consumers on what the state SkyCable headed? When the company said was business as usual on both Cable TV and Internet when in fact in reality they're losing money, how is that possible?

Also the PCC is now reviewing on the  PLDT takeover of SKY. But the question is, will there be a shakeup in Cignal too especially in the Pay TV industry?

With the PCC approving the acquisition by PLDT, SkyCable has posted this advisory announcing the termination of its cable TV service effective February 27, 2024:

“In anticipation of and pursuant to the closing conditions of the PLDT-SKY acquisition deal, SKY will now begin its transition into a dedicated internet service provider.

With this deal, SKY will discontinue its cable TV operations effective February 27, 2024. The final broadcast and sign-off of SKYcable will be on February 26, 2024 at 11:59pm.

Subscribers of cable TV plans may get information on how these developments will affect your service at this site, through our 24/7 messaging platform KYLA or by visiting any of our SKY Zones and business centers.

All SKY Fiber services will continue, and subscribers will be provided with the same level of service and customer experience.

Thank you for your years of support and for making SKYcable a part of your home.”

On our main TV, nakakabit ang Cignal box namin via PLDT Fiber Optic internet.
Pero if we get a second TV next year, then magpapakabit ako ng GSAT Satellite Dish para dun.

Skycable's closure is a problem for me too, as my mother only watches Skycable's Chinese Pack channels every day. She already has dementia and alzheimer, so she doesn't know how to manipulate around streaming apps or other devices. Alam lang niya yung Skycable. Also, I already paid the bill for the next 6 months, so have to apply for a refund pa. I expect it to be a hassle.

Sky Cable, PLDT deal not pushing through

"ABS-CBN Corporation and PLDT have mutually decided not to proceed with the sale of Sky Cable to PLDT under the Sale and Purchase Agreement signed by and among the parties in March 2023," the company said.

Sky Cable has begun to notify its cable TV subscribers that their cable TV subscriptions can continue.

Good news for us, buti di pa ako lumipat sa cignal. Pero ano kaya nangyari at hindi natuloy?

^Probably ABS-CBN's financial outlook has improved that they no longer has a need to dispose of it. I think cable tv  fits into their long term plan of eventually getting a broadcasting franchise again. They also have a niche that is hard for others to serve. There are many condos that do not have  optical fiber wiring thus can only support cable internet. Many condos also forbid satellite dishes as these are unsightly.

Buti pa kayo. Kami kasi maraming mataas na bahay kaya hirap ang reception sa room na parents ko. Pero medyo ok sa living room.  Plan ko kung natuloy yung end of skycable, yung antenna sa living room, connect ko sa splitter ng sky tapos derecho sa mga tv sa bahay.
   Meanwhile, nabasa ko online, ayaw daw kunin ng cignal yung ANC ng sky. Conflict sa sarili nila news channel. Kaya pala may nilabas na ANC prestige sa youtube. May bayad na ₱99 per month to watch their content. Pero not worth it for me kasi konti lang naman pinapanood ko doon.

matagal-tagal na akong walang cable subscription.  News at sporting events lang naman ang need panoorin ng live if ever.  Ang news, madami na din ang nag livestream.  Sa sporting events naman, very few and far between ang inaabangan ko, usually pag may laban ang Gilas at finals lang siguro ng NBA and I haven't followed the PBA since the late 90s siguro, so it doesn't really make sense to get a monthly subscription.

Parang ako. I just had Cignal dish installed last Sunday, kasi nga akala ko mawawala na Sky. Mas malinaw HD ng Sky (Cignal has digital "artifacts") and had more HD channels on the same price plan. Now, I have "buyer's remorse". Well, kasalanan din ng Sky, madami rin siguro tulad ko na lumipat na. The only saving grace is that I have NBA and other local basketball channels in HD, plus BBC (na nawala sa Sky).

Hindi ko pa na advise ang Sky. Akala ko kasi mag stop operations na lang sila ngayon Feb. 27. But from my experience, madali lang mag pa cable cut sa Sky- sa condo ng son ko, I just called them (tapos na rin yung locked in period). Sana nga may cooling off period ang Cignal kung saan puwede mag back out, haha!

Hello there, I'm very happy that SkyCable TV services didn't ceased it's operations. I was so close to subscribe to Cignal IPTV but eventually at the last minute the PLDT  takeover of Sky didn't occur last Feb. 22.
But while SkyCable is business as usual, two channels are gone as of March 1. They ceased their broadcast yesterday Feb. 29. Channel 81 is Telenovela Channel and another channel is I'm really happy to see it gone is Sky Chinese Entertainment Channel on Ch. 98. This channel has a VHS quality broadcast and operated since Sky launch in 1992 and after 32 years it's gone for good. Good riddance to that crappy channel. But why Sky continued that channel until Feb. 29?

And also there is another channel has been popped up recently, Front Row (Ch. 51 but it read Reserved) dedicated to live concerts bit the broadcast and audio are potato quality it's like broadcast it from VLC player.

I don't know if SkyCable gets new channels now the takeover merger is cancelled. And how about that high Debt, will this company survive?

I hope Converge is our only hope for this.

Heads up looks like Sky will remove all three BeIn Sports channels on April 1. I think Sky is beginning cost cutting measures since the mergers with PLDT failed. Do you think it will replace it with Setanta Sports?
