Topic: ABS-CBN or GMA? Who's the Best for YOU?

    Are you a kapamilya (ABS-CBN) or kapuso (GMA)?  Who is the best overall station?  Who is the best in terms of marketing strategy? News? Technology? And who for you is really the trendsetter and who is the copycat?
 
                                                 

    I can't help but notice the fierce competition between these two networks, each laying claim on the best television network title.  But in reality only us viewers have that right and privilege to say who really is the BEST for us.

    I know that there are people here who are connected to both networks it would be great to see an insiders point of view too, so they are welcome to post their views here.

Mahirap pumili.  Sa news na lang, for instance, may edge and ABS nung nag-crash yung plane sa Manila Bay kasi may chopper sila.  Sabi ng friend ko na taga-GMA Unang Hirit, wala daw kasi silang chopper.  Pero parang mas credible ang mga newscaster ng GMA kasi yung mga taga ABS-CBN, pumapasok sa politika (Noli, Ted, Loren, Gilbert Remulla...)  ang kaso lumipat si Karen Davila and Mari Kaimo sa ABS-CBN, so naging ok na rin ang news team nila.  Tapos mas ok panoorin ang News Central.  But then again, pagdating sa investigative journalism, lamang ang GMA.

Whenever I watch the sitcoms and tele novelas of these two networks, it reminds me of how pathetic the state of local television is.

Watch their sitcoms (except Bubble Gang, ha...pero Gag show pala yun hindi sitcom), nagbubungisngisan...and they don't even edit it...para kang nanonood ng isang oras na blooper reel. Tsaka bakit parating may fantasy scene?

PERO, to answer your question, kung walang wala na, kapuso na lang ako ng GMA, just for these two shows, SOP and Bubble Gang.

For me its GMA

TV programs I like in GMA are the following:

Comedy/Gag show: Bubble Gang
Noon time show:      Eat Bulaga (coz I like the sex bomb dancers)

I prefer Mel and Jay than watching Sharon because its more informative. GMA's soap is more interesting than ABS because all of the big time personalities are there...like Edie Garcia, Ruffa Gutierez,Alice Dixon, Chin chin and etc. For short, madami kang makikitang girls na magaganda sa GMA ...unlike ABS....si Sally lang yung daring doon

Pero parang mas credible ang mga newscaster ng GMA kasi yung mga taga ABS-CBN, pumapasok sa politika (Noli, Ted, Loren, Gilbert Remulla...)  ang kaso lumipat si Karen Davila and Mari Kaimo sa ABS-CBN, so naging ok na rin ang news team nila.  Tapos mas ok panoorin ang News Central.  But then again, pagdating sa investigative journalism, lamang ang GMA.

   Yung pag-pasok sa politica ng mga taga ABS-CBN sa tingin ko malaking advantage sa GMA, well look at ABS-CBN News now lacking of superstar news personalities, if Korina hould run eh di wala ng natira so GMA would ultimately benefit.  But is running for public office makes a journalist less credible?  Siguro kaya taga- ABS-CBN lang ang mga tumatakbo is because sila lang ang may winability I dont think na mananalo si Vicky Morales or even Mike Enriquez kung tumakbo sila, even Mel Tianco wala na rin lumubog na but thats only my opinion.

They used to have Channel 27 but they blew it.

I think both folded-up operations already.

Oh, and GMA also operates Channel BIG -- not a real channel though but only a large "TV" monitor in EDSA at the foot of Guadalupe Bridge.

I like ABS than GMA. Pero sa tanghali i prefer watching Eat Bulaga.

    On the contrary I think they look up, well most of them to our media here specially television.  Maraming reasons why are media here are better than our asian counterparts some of the reasons are talent, creativity, freedom and financial viability.  Wala naman mapagyayabang ang media ng ibang asian countries because they rely on media inports like those in Singapore and Hongkong besides when it comes to international awards eh talo ng Philippine media ang Asian counterparts.

ABS-CBN pa rin pero GMA is into intense competition nowadays since na overthrow na yung mga Jimenez's

I just perused over the site and my impression is ABS got more citations than GMA

According to Asian Business News, the Philippines ranks low in terms of professionalism compared to counterparts in Asia. I also question many of the awards given, especially those given to documentaries. The rest I don't bother with because they are awards for logos.

For example, look at hour-long "documentaries" produced by local networks. Their reporters talk in loud voices, lift soundbites from interviewees, and discuss what is obvious. They're very similar to Fox News reports, which sensationalize, use flashy graphics and music, and often deal with the controversial.

    Jandara may point ka dun, I think ABS-CBN is the pioneering television Network here.  I still remember before they went on the air in the 80's walang kabuhay-buhay ang TV industry here.  Today we have a vibrant and competitive TV industry.

    Another thing they pionered the use of computer graphics and animation here I remember the dragon seasonal campaign in 88 that was cool at that time and trailblazers and mga pakulo nila lalo na yung "tuldok" ad campaign.

   Up to now they are still pioneering many things like when it comes to set design sila ang nagpauso ng overhang sa mga sets, just look at the sets of ASAP laging ginagaya ng SOP (tapos sasabihin ni Ogie sila ginagaya KAPAL!)  pati yung live concept or concert concept I remember sila nag-umpisa from the APO show.

   Kaya for me ABS-CBN is the BEST GMA humahabol pero I think kung gagaya lang sila ng gagaya walang mangyayari.

     I beg to differ, I think you havent heard of the other international awards the most recent (I cant remember the name of that award) was received by the show Correspondent besting the rest of Media organization from around the world including american networks like CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS also BBC.  They got the award from covering the Afghanistan takeover from the Taliban Ive seen that episode it really deserves that kind of merit.

     That is something that we should be proud of specially if you think that logistically the team was no match for the big networks like those of CNN and BBC but still they delivered.

    I beg to differ, I think you havent heard of the other international awards the most recent (I cant remember the name of that award) was received by the show Correspondent besting the rest of Media organization from around the world including american networks like CNN, NBC, ABC and CBS also BBC.  They got the award from covering the Afghanistan takeover from the Taliban Ive seen that episode it really deserves that kind of merit.

was able to catch this on TV. i admire the journalists involved for their resourcefulness and courage specially when they were intercepted by rebels (not sure if they're part of the Taliban)...

   Rmn your point is valid but you see it work both ways. I don't know if you or the others here have noticed that when there is a controversy hounding the Lopezes the owner of ABS-CBN especially if its negative, GMA consciously or unconsciously gives extra air time to it in a bias manner.  The last time I noticed it was when the Lopezes decided to gave up Maynilad, GMA’s reporting is too obviously unbalanced which try to paint them as greedy.  They even conveniently did not mention the fact that 90% of MWSS loans where shouldered by Maynilad.  Plus the fact that many waterless areas in Metro have been given water by Maynilad.

  So all networks have interest, even GMAs owners have them, worst pa nga kasi GMA is owned by 3 families so the interest are multiplied by 3 pa diba.  And besides ni hindi nga sila public unlike ABS-CBN so talagang private ang GMA which is more prone to abuse.

Speaking of TFC, they overcharging the subscription abroad especially in the Middle East where most of their shows are recycle or replay ( back to back daw or producers cut kuno ). I dont have TFC at home because it sucks! Hope that GMA channel will arrive soon in Mid-East to compete them.
