IPS panels is considered the best for watching video from any viewing angles. Unfortunately, Samsung does not have this LCD technology:(

We have Samsung latest 26a450. However, this TV is not made of IPS panel.  :)
sirs,

anong company/brand po ng lcd tv ang gumagamit ng IPS panels?

thanks po.

Sorry for the double post...

Ask ko lang sa owners... when used as a PC mon... can you directly install an OS using HDMI connection?  may output ba? I just read kasi sa ibang threads wala raw kasing display until windows detects it... mamaya ko palang kasi susubukan.... I have no alternative monitor and no VGA cable...

Just an update: Noticed that the remote is slow to respond (or is it the TV?) when changing channels, etc. This is my first samsung so the comparison is based on my bravia remote and that of my previous crt's, a panasonic and a philips.

Guys, any feedback on the quality when using this mainly as a PC monitor?  I'm contemplating on either buying this model or the Samsung T220 PC monitor...both are 22-inch LCD, the pros and cons for each model are as follows -

Samsung 22 - A450

Pros:
1. has TV tuner and speaker - i have a tuner on my PC, but using this would allow me to view tv without powering-up the PC
2. has component video input - i can connect a game console as a secondary input device

Cons:
1. only has vga analog port - no dvi port ... i need to buy an hdmi to dvi converter cable to go digital
2. only 5000:1 contrast ratio

Samsung T220 PC monitor

Pros:
1. 20,000:1 contrast ratio
2. This model physically looks like the series 7 models with red trimmings - much much better aethetically
3. Comes free with a Samsung 7-inch digital photo frame worth almost 5k (promo up to Dec. 31 only)
4. almost 1.5k cheaper than the 22-inch tv

Cons:
1. no other input besides the DVI and VGA port - it will be dedicated to the PC connection
2. no tuner and speaker - i'll have to power on my PC for this

For guys building an htpc, the T220 is a good buy ...especially with the ongoing promo
Marantz NR1200, MartinLogan Motion 20 digital audio setup, and Sony A80J

How much is the T220? I am also interested in the Samsung 7-inch digital photo frame...

one shop in tipid pc is selling the unit at 13,700 ... another shop is selling at 13k (Seamax), and Villman is selling the unit at 15,999 .... you can see the details of the promo in the Villman website - http://www.villman.com/Product-Detail/samsung_T220 and here's the details of the promo - http://www.villman.com/Page/Capture-Special-Moments-this-Christmas

the 13k+ pricing should be the real selling price, medyo mahal lang talaga sa Villman ... yung 19-inch model kasi (T-190) is selling for around 10k+ lang ... it should not matter however kung saan mo binili to get the freebie ... Samsung kasi yung promo - check out the links I posted above

decided na rin ako to get the T220 instead of the 22-A450 TV ... another advantage pala ng T220 is 2ms response time compared to 5ms of the 22-A450 ....you can check out the specs on samsung .com.ph  .... reading back on the thread, there's also a comment na medyo blurred yung 22-A450 pag around 3ft yung viewing distance - then I guess di sya ok for using it primarily as PC monitor

i was thinking of buying the t220hd over the 22a450 before...pero i ended up buying the a450... and i think i made the right choice.

samsung t series has the cheap tn panel (twisted nematic)...22a450 uses the same panel as the higher model samsung lcdtv...tn panel has a faster response time but viewing angle is restrictive that's why it's commonly used as pc monitor only...panget especially when you view it from below or sa side...my sister has t190 and she bought a tv box for it, hehehe ang labo ng picture whenever na manood ka na nakahiga sa bed...

i use my a450 50% as a pc monitor, sharp po siya, di blurred ...just use the right cable (ferrite core vga gamit ko),  kasi walang kasamang vga cable ito unlike in t190/t220 kaya kapag gumamit ka ng cable na panget (gaya ng nabili ko sa cdrking) talagang panget! when i borrowed the supplied cable of t190 and used it with my 22a450, magic!

i checked out both the T220 and the 22a450 in Glorietta earlier today ... i don't see any difference (in comparing the 2 models) with the picture quality when viewed from different angles (including top and bottom) ... there was degradation in quality when viewed from top or bottom, but not much on the side angles - quality was basically the same for both ... what I observed is that I don't think that the 22a450 have the same panel as the bigger 4-series models - the one that I viewed in Abenson was sitting next to a 32-inch 3-series and 32-inch 4-series, and though the picture quality of the 22a450 is good, it is very noticeable that the bigger 3 and 4-series have more vibrant colors and a lot better viewing angle (including top and bottom) ... this observation was also shared by one of the customers auditioning the tv's .... another thing I can also mention is that although there is a quality degradation on both models when viewed on slightly extreme top or bottom angles, it is still a lot better on those conditions than my almost 2-year old Samsung 940BW 19-inch LCD PC monitor

this leads me to a conclusion that I'm better off with the T220 for my requirements, mainly because of the quality and the freebie (7-inch digital photo frame with 128MB memory and SD slot worth 4,990) if the only other option is the 22a450 ... by the way, they are selling the T220 at PhP 14k in Silicon Valley (cash only) in Park Square.... another thing also is that there is somewhat another advantage on the 22a450, although probably miniscule but may be important for some purist ... the 22a450 has a screen ratio of 16:9 (which is the industry standard nowadays), the T220 has 16:10 (ok by PC standards, but a little bit off the tv standard.

but there's more (parang tv shopping ... hehe) ... and this will probably wet the apetite of those targeting the 22-inch Samsung TV or are looking for a bigger tv 26 or 32-inch but still short of the budget ... there's another model on display at Silicon Valley in Park Square I'd likely choose over the T220 and 22a450 .... this is the Samsung T240HD - it is an HDTV (not HD ready only), with digital tuner, 16:9 ration, 10,000:1 contrast ratio - in summary it has the best features of the 22a450 and T220 combined and it's full HD and the bigger bang is that it has 24-inch screen size ....but wait that's not all (feeling home tv shopping talaga  ;D) - the price is PhP 20k (cash) and if purchased on or before Dec. 31, it comes with a free Samsung S760 digital camera (7.2 MP with 2.4-inch LCD screen, worth PhP 5,990) .... subtracting the amount of the free camera, you basically get a 24-inch full HD tv at less than PhP 15k

in terms of PQ, the T240HD visibly is much better than the T220 and the 22a450

But that T240HD is still just a PC monitor, right?

*** edit ***

did a bit of a research and i found out it's actually a hybrid.

Quote
Before we get onto to such delights, however, there's the business of standard definition content to deal with and specifically Freeview image quality (i think this is our standard TV signal, right?). Despite its "digital credentials", anyone who knows anything knows that the Freeview feed isn't of great quality and good TVs use a lot of processing to get regular TV looking passable.

It's this kind of processing that the T240HD lacks and though it puts forward a reasonable performance, we've seen Freeview look better than this. It doesn't do a great job of eliminating pixel crawl and the various digital artefacts are obvious for even an un-trained eye to see(i can see now, peeps compaining that their cable is grainy...  hehe). This doesn't make it unwatchable by any means, but it won't match most dedicated TVs.

Another department that weakens its TV credentials are the viewing angles. Again, they're just about acceptable, but there is a noticeable loss of contrast and some colour shift that's at its worst when viewed from above. Happily, things like the EPG and basic navigation are very good, better than the majority of TV/Monitor hybrids we've seen and though it may sound like the T240HD isn't that a good TV, as a secondary TV for the bedroom or kitchen you could do a lot worse - but also slightly better.

Verdict

It may not be the best TV or monitor around, but as a combination of the two the Samsung T240HD is pretty decent and if its versatility and style suit your needs, there can be little arguing over the price either.

hmm...  and just when i'm almost 100% sold to getting a 22A450...  darn.
