had a few cases with wd green sold in questlogic (first batch sold) and if youre right, there is a chance that its a batch problem.  im actually wishing it is since its cheap and its green .. ;D

Probably.  Manufacturing batch problems are possible, but right now, WD Green seems to be one of the most popular and reliable HDD mainly for storage or back-up.  It should work fine with any kind of media file.  So far so good lahat ng na-handle ko personally (even those that are not mine), and it's really really cool (literally) compared to Seagate.

The biggest story in Tokyo's DIY community last week is the (voluntary) suspension of sales of the Seagate 1.5TB HDD.   Too many problems and returned units.  But it seems Seagate has just released a firmware update to fix the issues, yet it remains the discretion of the owner whether to trust the fix or not.  In any case, many popular PC parts stores in Tokyo's electronics districs have yet to resume sales of this particular HDD.   Buy at your own risk at the moment.

AMD Athlon X2 5000+ Processor w/ HSF
Integrated Nvidia GeForce 8200 GPU (256MB shared memory)
Hybrid SLI Support (Windows Vista)
NVIDIA nForce built-in Gigabit MAC with external RTL8211CL-GR
Team Elite 4GB DDR2 800 Memory Module w/ Heat Spreader

Nag reformat kasi ako eh. ung old settings ko wlang problema :( di ko na backup ung settings befor nag reisntall ng OS

A lot of members are using PCs powered by the same Athlon chip and that on-board graphics, so just completely uninstall then reinstall the media player and the codecs.  One at a time lang.  Try to stay away from packs kase ang hirap ma-trace ng problem.   Media player, CoreAVC, AC3Filter, enable CoreAVC within the Media Player.  Thats all.  No need to tweak anything.

Curious, why did you have to reformat?

Disagree with 500G HDD. :P

Here in Manila, a Seagate 32mb 500G HDD carries a 5 year warranty, the WD Green only offers a year's warranty.

I have tried both, I cannot see any difference in speed even with the esata, however, because of the 5 years warranty, I always end up getting a Seagate.....BTW...the WD Green is attractive with it's green markings, unlike the Seagate's clinical facet.

Another thing...2.9K was  last week's price for the 500G Seagate 32mb HDD, whereas it's 3.150K for the WD Green 500G HDD.

Media player classic is working fine. But with Windows media center, nag kaka problem talaga ung audio/video sync. nahuhuli ung video. Had the same software before i reinstalled my OS -klite video pack - worked fine w/ media center. I'll consider your advice. So for now, media player classic lang ang gamit ko..ok naman. i'll let you know kung umokey..thanks! ;D

I reformatted dahil sa pesteng windows live messenger...di makapag sign in, di mo rin ma uninstall..or reinstall..na search ko na possible solutions, pero di nag work.  Sayang, I should have created a backup configuration of my codecs. Thanks again! ;)

Download Windows Installer CleanUp Utility and use it to remove programs that you dont need.  be careful though.  :)

on your pc. try to uninstall your codec packs and try to download combined community codec pack. google it up na lang for the link. tapos install it and try to play the .mkv using "media player classic" its included sa codec pack you just installed. goodluck :)

correct si ivannn .... most probably codec compatibility lang .... and media player classic is the most 'stable' player available out there.

also, could just be some choppy MKV file themselves .... andami ko din MKV files na maraming 'damages', as detected through MKVMerge.

I think you just need the Kmplayer + the special sauce.

I use Media Player Classic plus CoreAVC.  The combo uses less CPU resources.. so playback is smoother.

Exactly.  I absolutely have no faith in CoreAVC.  Buti nalang mura, pero muntik na akong mapa-mura dahil no effect sa 1080ps.    Acceptable playback of 1080ps is not about reducing the load of the CPU, which is not at all stretched in the first place.

Keep the codecs at a minimum to avoid conflicts.   I personally dont like "packs".  The most powerful combination Ive tried so far is Media Player Classic and the latest FFDshow and AC3Filter.  That's all.   Any 1080p file where KMP and VLC fails, this MPC+FFD handles well.  Many of the so called 1080ps have bitrates higher than 11mbps and would be in the 10-16GB range, which at the moment are just about the most demanding files to play.  Any slight anomaly in your system would be magnified by these kinds of files (especially those with 5.1 level encode - 4.1 is much more efficient).  Only MPC+FFD can play that with my E6600 powered machine.  So kakayanin sigurado ng Q6600 mo if installed properly.

I dont know how often FFDshow gets updated. The updates are so frequent that it's always in Beta, but that's OK.   The so called "last stable final copy" is like years old already so dont get that.   Just google FFDshow and get whatever has got the newest date, BETA or not.

I agree with this ..... i never used CoreAVC again ...

mas maganda PQ with ffdshow, mas maliwanag pa yung output ......

Bro, that was an old post.  Since then, I have discovered the efficiency of CoreAVC - starting from version 1.8.5 to be specific - and witnessed it's power to literally resurrect P4 machines and make them MKV-playback-capable.

But I have to agree that FFDshow seems to have the better looking image output, however, my use of FFDshow has been relegated to decoding SD contents only (paired with Windows Media Player).

I think it's the same - but I also have versions 1.9.0 and 1.9.5.   However since 1.8.5 is totally effective for my applications already, I cant figure out what has been improved with those newer versions.

have you tried setting the right codec for the player?  is there a new update for your player?
check these options first, if it still doesn't work you might want to try kmplayer  :D

hi ninjababes. umm actually about sa codec wala ako ginalaw eh, kung anu yun sa imedian dati yun padin yung ginagamit ko, before hindi ganun yun mga movies eh lage sila smooth, naalala ko lang na last thing ko na ginalaw sa settings ng imedian is yun ni ON ko yun spdif out, ni ON yun dolby and dts . pero i doubt may connect sila sa playback ng video eh, will try to find some updates muna. Sa kmplayer pwede i set to dts yun audio? sa vlc kasi pag ni set ko sa dts yun sound choppy ..

I'm using XBMC and I also experienced the fastforward thingie while viewing MKVs. I upgraded my proc from AMD X2 5000 to 7750 Black Series. Watched an MKV last night and I didn't experience the problem anymore.

Guess that was a more expensive way to remedy the problem.  Just liked the GUI of XBMC that's why I stuck to it.  ;D

sakin kasi impossible na bottleneck ang processor kasi im using Q6600 @ 3200mhz pa nga, nuon wala naman ako prob but sa imedian player kapag naka on ang DTS and dolby nag fafast forward sila  :'( nasanay nadin kasi ako sa imedian kaya hindi ako nag papalit ng player, pero kapag naka off yun DTS sa player ng audio smooth sila.. weird  :(

xbmc has a wonderful looking interface, however i have issues with playback, video tearing, stuttery video among others.

I currently use an X2 5400 running KMP & CoreAvc, flawless 1080p playback  :)

With the new proc,  so far everything I've watched was flawless. Just watched The 6th Day 1080p and it was just smooth. No more stuttering and fastforwarding.

Another weird thing I've noticed is the video being sharper after the upgrade.
